The Dart And Marlin — Restaurant in Warrnambool

FOOD ALLERGIES BEWARE 😢 Unfortunately the Dart & Marlin did not live up to expectations :(. We arrived on a Friday night but they were booked out, they did offer an outdoor table but it was ~8 degrees so we decided to schedule a booking for 8:15pm on the Saturday night instead. We were excited about our booking but on arrival we were sat outside at the back anyway as our table wasn’t ready for almost half hour, it was absolutely freezing being mid winter - so I recommend bringing layers just in case, even if you have an indoor booking!!

We ordered and unfortunately the online menu differed from the restaurants menu and a lot of our desired options were not available. The menu offered gluten free pasta, so I asked if they had gluten free pasta instead of gnocchi and informed the waitress clearly that “I am a coeliac and require gluten free” dishes. The waitress checked with the chef and came back to offer a ‘gluten free pasta special’ instead which I happily ordered. We ordered: Entrees, me: olives / partner: fried chicken Mains, me: GF pasta special / partner: a pepperoni pizza Drinks, me: mocktail / partner: cocktail Alike other comments, food and drinks were slow but I didn’t mind that much. We were sat under a speaker and the music was quite terrible but not the end of the world. My partners main pizza arrived first with my entree olives after 9pm, my main arrived when my partner was already half way through his pizza which I found odd and entree fried chicken came last. I normally recheck my meal is GF but due to requesting a special GF dish that wasn’t on the menu, requesting GF pasta and that the waitress had specifically confirmed GF with the chef, I happily started my meal. After enjoying some of my pasta, a different waitress came out with another pasta dish and noted hers was the gluten free one - my stomach dropped. I asked for the waitress to confirm if the dish I was served/eating was gluten free, the waitress then took my meal I was eating, and went to check with the chef, which I found strange but anyway. The waitress came back to confirm my dish was unfortunately not gluten free 😩. Due to my severe allergy reaction, we needed to leave the restaurant ASAP. They decided not to charge us which I was very grateful for, even after we offered to pay for drinks. Within the hour I was extremely sick with severe bloating, abdominal pain+++, eczema, IBS and general discomfort which lasts for almost a week 😩. It unfortunately completely spoiled our long weekend getaway 😥.

It’s sad people don’t take allergies seriously and don’t realise the after effects it has on people 😰.

This was my first time at The Dart and Marlin and I was hoping for it to be pleasant. Unfortunately, for multiple reasons, it was not. When we arrived and found a table, no one came to serve us for around 10 minutes (the bar was quiet.) We ordered drinks and waited almost 20 minutes for someone to come and take our food order. Several wait staff walked past and I eventually waved someone down. The Aperol spritz I ordered tasted like soda water and wine, and was pale orange in colour. There was minimal aperol in the drink. The food was really nice, but during our meal, 2 staff members entered the courtyard and sat at the table next to us, then started vaping (which is against the law in a dining area.) They continued for about 20 minutes or so and then my friend spoke to them about it. When she said, “You can’t vape here” the worker said, “well, I’m the boss, would you like me to stop?” My friend said that it’s illegal and both staff members glared at her while one said “sorry” in a sarcastic tone. Their response was unprofessional, rude, hostile and they showed a complete disregard for dining and tobacco laws. We spoke to another staff member on the way out (we said that staff were vaping outside in the dining area) and she said “yeah, we are cool like that.” It appears that the staff are either untrained or blatantly disregarding law, which is very concerning. Went here for a simple quick dinner as we were hungry and tired after the long drive from Melbourne, exploring Warrnambool plus the rainy cold weather. We walked-in and yay we had a table on a Friday evening, lucky us. It was lively and the night is beginning to pick up. We ordered Pan Fried L’Artisan Halloumi with Quince and the Quince was soooooooo deliciousss and it compliments well with the Halloumi. Snapper Crudo was sooo good! Had Potato and Rosemary Pizza, Prosciutto Pizza, both pizzas were fulfilling and satisfying. Loved ittttt! Although the place may seem simple from the outside but inside the food is deliciousss! Cocktails were equally deliciousss as well! Had a great dinner and happy bellies! I know the photo do not show much but the taste of the dishes are sooo goood! DO NOT MISS OUT!!! Thanks to the Chef, to his team, to the bartender, to the waiter/waitress and to the Restaurant Manager. Keep the amazing work...
