I love Dome,
I was impressed with the size and quality of the venue, it seems very new and most seating options are good seating options. A gorgeous young lady served me the first day, her smile lit the room up. I ordered two coffees and was on my way within 10 minutes. Very efficient.
The second visit was much the same as the first but this time I stayed to dine in. I'm a fussy tradie, which isn't really that fussy. So when my eggs benedict with ham came out I didn't send the barely cooked eggs back, instead I ate them and told myself to buy the BLT next time.
So I dined in again today, it didn't start too well when the lady taking orders yelled over her previous customer who had not yet moved out of the way (an older woman with two young children) asking for my order. I waited for the other customer to move.
I left the table to go to the toilet, I had eaten the majority of my food but there were still 2 full coffees on the table, I hadn't even sipped one yet. Along with my sunglasses as a sort of note to say "I haven't left yet". But I returned to find nothing at the table.... nothing.
No problem, I'm sure they just made a mistake and will fix it up. I approached the counter and told them what had happened. Apologies came swiftly from the staff member that cleaned it and I sensed sincerity too. As much as I would have liked to finish my food at this stage I was becoming pressed for time and would not have accepted a replacement. But one was never offered. No matter, I just want to get my coffees and go.
After watching the staff make coffees for a further 10 minutes I came very close to popping my cork. Mistakes made should be swiftly rectified, not sent to the back of the line. I was handed 1 coffee.
"Excuse me, I ordered 2 coffees." I said to the manager.
"There was only one on the table." Said this woman, who didn't actually know how many coffees were in the table.
"There was two when I went to the toilet." I said "You brought them out to me remember?"
"I remember" she said before directing her next question to a staff member "Was there 1 or 2." She asks.
"One was empty." Said the staff member. (Now the manager knows there was in fact two coffees on the table)
"See, one was empty." She said with confidence.
At this point I've had enough and blow a gasket; "You throw my food out, don't offer me a replacement, now you want to argue wether I had 1 f*ing coffee or 2!?
"You ate more than 50% of the food." She says, as if to say we don't have to replace the food.
I NEVER ASKED FOR A F*ING MEAL REPLACEMENT YOU IDIOT. (I didn't actually say this)
Now a staff member jumps in with her two bob (remember cold eyes?) "You need to calm down." She says.
Do these nitwits get any sort of HR training at all? I mean, yelling out from behind the coffee machine at a customer who's feeling pretty f*ed over by that store is one of the dumbest things a human in hospitality could do.
"You dumb c*s couldn't wait 2 minutes before cleaning the table?" I said in a rage.
The manager turns to her staff member "Just make him the coffee."
"HOORAY, about f*ing time!!" I yelled loudly before the manager rolled her eyes at me...
Read moreMy local Dôme. Overall an overrated business and not great to work for.
That aside, Dome in Waikiki has a lovely, cosy and inviting atmosphere and venue. The seating is good and the food is very solid in quality. The water station is great and very accessible.
The staff are so-so. Sometimes they ignore you, sometimes they are friendly at the til and when they bring food/drink to the table. But they never ever go above and beyond.
Likewise, the coffees are very hit and miss! Depending on time, day and barista. The coffees are very expensive. When it’s busy -the coffees are burnt and bitter. I now avoid during these periods. When it’s quiet, the coffees are often lukewarm. Sometimes, the coffees are good -creamy and hot. I find the safest bet is a regular coffee in a takeaway cup. I will look elsewhere though, when meeting friends and family and when recommending to others. As the quality is too inconsistent. In the mornings, I find McDonald’s drive through a safer option - it’s cheaper, more convenient and on par quality-wise...
Read moreAs someone who takes great care in providing detailed and accurate assessments, I was thoroughly impressed with Dome Cafe's commitment to family-friendly dining.
My son was quite taken with the slider and chips, and the flexibility to customize our 'big breakie' was much appreciated—replacing mushrooms with beans wasn't an issue.
A particular highlight for us is the cafe's seating booths. Though they can be hard to snag, they offer that extra bit of privacy that my family values. I do wish the cafe would add more dining booths to accommodate the demand.
We topped off our meal with a couple of milkshakes that earned a 'super yummy' rating from my young one. Securing a table was hassle-free, and the drawing sheets and pens kept my son entertained, making for an overall seamless experience.
While Dome Cafe might not be everyone's cup of tea, we thoroughly enjoyed it. I wholeheartedly recommend it for anyone in search of a quality, family-friendly dining option that doesn't skimp on service....
