Fantastic place to eat. The restaurant was clean, bright, and well set out. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. I usually don't eat at pubs because the menus are always the same, and everything is usually deep fried and comes with chips. Not here! As soon as we finished our meal, we booked a table for the following night with the lovely man who was in charge. I'm sorry I do apologise. I can't remember your name. As well as having the usual pub classics, they also serve fish, pasta, soup, and roast dishes (usually reserved or a Sunday). These are on a special's board as they change. They have a senior and kids menu as well. There were 2 kids, 2 pensions, and 3 adults in our party. We loved that they brought the kids' meals out first. These were absolutely fantastic, and included lots of items that were well presented on a little tray. Please see the photos. The kids loved them, and it was amazing value. They also let us change mashed potatoes for chips. The senior menu was huge. Again, we were able to change mash for chips, and they also asked if we would like the fish grilled or fried, which we've never had the option before. The grilled fish was lovely. They have a special every day of the week, which includes a pint. Most places only do this week days and don't include weekends. The chicken sandwich was nice, and the toasted bread was different to the usual thick bread or bun you get, which overpowers the filling. The bread was also locally sourced. The pie had lots of filling and was really tasty. The pea mash was really nice. The chicken schnitzel was a weekly special with a pint. The mushroom sauce was nice, and the schnitzel was big and juicy. The chicken parmigiana was huge and juicy and had lots of sauce. I had the roast beef in a giant Yorkshire pudding. The beef melted in your mouth, and the veg was cooked beautifully. I also had the lamb shank and giant Yorkshire pudding. This was the nicest lamb shank I've had. It melted I your mouth, the meat fell apart. Again, the roasted vegetables were cooked beautifully. Both meals came with a homemade sauce, which was nice. We would all definitely recommend coming here for a meal. The service was fantastic, the food was amazing and it was great value for money. We went for 2 consecutive nights whilst on a weekend away for a sporting event. Next time we are in Bunbury, we will...

The staff here turned a 1 star review into a 5 star review.
I'll leave my original review below for honesty. I've been back to the Highway several times in the last few months. I haven't tried to order a special! Though I now have unusual dietary needs, and I have to thank Jack for being very understanding and accommodating. It's the people in a business that give it the human touch. Something corporate could do well to put more value into. I give a 5 star rating to the staff of the highway hotel, and a 1 star for ALH. Thanks Jack, and Chris for being great here at the Highway. Good luck going forward. All the best in your new adventures.
Really dissapointed in the change to ordering from the specials menu. You're now forced to use a phone and order from the QR code on the table. I'm here on a company account, and subsequently can't have a special. They absolutely deny you access to the specials menu. Please note, this review is 100% directed at the management decision to implement this change. The staff are fantastic, and obviously exasperated with having to explain the system. Shame, because the meals are great! Compliments to the kitchen. There are many options out there, and this is enough to cause me to go elsewhere. Ahh, it's an ALH venue. See where corporate interests take us. I'm expecting a response to the review stating that the full menu is available, and please reach out for further assistance. Well, if your specials are unavailable, then your full menu isn't. And what assistance could be provided if I reach out? Dissapointed with Management and corporate...
Read moreBeen a while since our last visit to the Highway. The menu seems to have been simplified & we weren't sure we liked that or not. That said or because of this we chose a kids nuggets & chips, chicken parmi with 2 fish & chips, plus drinks. The nuggets came out first & we were really impressed with that. To many places make the children secondary, leaving them till last. Having the young ones feeding keeps them quiet allowing the adults to adult & hold a conversation. The nuggets weren't just a base nuggets & chips. 6 nuggets, a good handful of chips accompanied by a small salad of lettuce, tomato & egg along with a small packet of cheese, a box of sultanas with a packaged jelly & Freddo Frog. Definate value for money there!!! The parmi was exactly what you would expect of a pub parmi. The parmi itself was traditional & took up about half the plate with a generous serve of chips & standard salad. The boy loved it. The fish & chips were well presented with three good portions of fish, chips & a standard salad (tartar sauce of course). All was well cooked with the chips crispy & the batter on the fish being lovely & crisp. Over all, we'll have to start coming...
