Went to this restaurant tonight with my family of 4. We are foodies, when we go out we anticipate a good experience, we had great experience once a few years ago but not this time. Ordered chilli crab and squid pasta, barramundi and creamy prawn and fried calamari. First of all, table was not set, extremely unstable and wobbly and rather awkward. Service from young waitress was a lovely, polite young lady. We noticed upon ordering quite high prices, with the first 3 dishes listed above around $35-40, fine, so we continue with the order, it is a highly competitive price, assumed the price would be reflect quality, portion sizing and freshness. Once ordered, we waited and once food arrived we decided we really needed to switch tables. We moved outside to eat and were immediately attacked by swarms of mosquitos. Many many bites, with other customers complaining of them, we noticed how they had some mosquito spray, we asked to borrow some and later when paying found that that was given to them by management. We dig in, the barramundi was solid, very tasty and well cooked, however potion was very small, a few slices of cooked veggies, a filet of barramundi and 3 prawns. Calamari, also good, but small portion even for an appetizer, priced at $19 for maybe the equivalent of a cup of so of fried calamari bits. Squid ink pasta, again quite nice and portion was decent but still very small considering the nearly $40 price. Then, the chilli crab pasta, bitter tasting and extremely salty, tomato overpowering, and we questioned the freshness of little amount crab, comparing it to canned crab. Ordered a few drinks but rather than coming with can and glass, cokes came pre poured and chinotto drink was poured at table. Ended checking out with a final price of around $150 dollars give or take. Overall, the service is good with polite staff 4/5 stars, the food, small portion for price and quality 1/5 and overall ambience and atmosphere is lacking 1/5. Sad to say we will not be coming back here. Now we know how Gordon Ramsey feels in some settings 🤣 Do not recommend, such bad experience left us disappointed and...
Read moreWow what a horrible restaurant! From the start we were being served by 4 different people, and none of them knew what each other had done or ordered. They got the entrees wrong (of course). The bruschetta was very plain & tasteless, and was absolutely SWIMMING in a pool of oil. The garlic bread we ordered for the table was the same, laying in a HUGE pool of OIL!
When the mains come out... --- The seafood risotto was horrible. The prawns were obviously bought pre-cooked, and were WAY overcooked by the time they reheated them. They also had the poo-chutes in a lot of them. The calamari was also way overcooked and obviously pre-cooked prior to service. The mussels were the same and a few weren't open. --- The Fish was UNDERCOOKED & came with a white sauce. Again there was this disgusting pool of OIL it was laying in. WITH A WHITE SAUCE??? HUH??? --- The chicken, again, had a pool of oil under it. What the hell???
If this place thinks an attempt to cook & serve authentic Italian food means to drown everything in oil, then they are sadly mistaken.
It might help to use fresh ingredients too. You can't charge that amount of money for pre-cooked prawns etc, then overcook them. Or to undercook what used to be a beautiful piece of fish.
None of the food was nice at all, and our complete table of 6 left very dissapointed. Needless to say none of us will EVER...
Read moreMy partner and I booked a table for Valentine’s Day. We were allocated a table at the very back, in quiet a corner, even though the restaurant was half empty. No atmosphere, and not at all romantic for VDay.
We paid $34 for two cocktails, one was a half empty martini glass. We weren’t even told there was a cocktail special on. We saw the specials board as we walked out, disappointed we didn’t get that.
We got bruschetta and the arancini for entree, bruschetta had no basil and poor presentation. Arancini had no flavour and was over cooked.
My partner got spaghetti, $29.50, looked like it came out of a tin can… not much flavour either. I got the pumpkin ravioli. It was average for $29.50. Some pepper or parmesan would’ve been nice, we weren’t offered any and there was none on the table. My partner ended up getting Maccas on the way home, I guess that says something.
Shame, as the restaurant has a nice setup. But just because it’s Guildford, doesn’t mean you should be able to charge these ridiculous prices for very average food and poor service.
Do yourself a favour and head down to Il Capo Trattoria,...
