Hey guys Went to Tiamo on 15.2.2011 and found my 30mins i was there terrible All I wanted was a sundae and coffee but they didn't even want to take my order after 15 mins This is how it went down Waited a minute to be sat down. Said that I was here for dessert and coffee Asked to be seated for one person. Was plenty of room inside but supposedly after he (the supervisor/bald head fellow who keeps talking to customers) viewed the room, he said the small tables were already booked. He didn't even look at his daily list of reservation and made up his mind that I wasn't worth his time to be inside the establishment. Really disappointed (just because i wanted a sundae and coffee ($20), I was neglected cos i wasn't a customer paying $60 dollars a meal, SHAME ON YOU Got seated outside with the menu, waited atleast 20mins for service, none arrived, No water to be served temporarily, wait staff busy with kitchen than they are with new patrons (maybe there role was to deliver food not take orders) Head supervisor, 170cm, bald, ethnic background, nice clean clothing, cheesy smile, He was busy talking to customers without even making sure that I was served. I could understand the wait staff were busy sending dishes out of the kitchen but he was just chatting a way to his regulars while i waited and waited for service. Was I expected to go up and get served myself. Finally decided that if they weren't going to take my order, I would go to them. Again Supervisor was still chatting to the customer and ignored me. Waited by the barista to make an order but by the time i reached there, I realised that i had to pick my friend up. What a waste of my time sitting around doing nothing. Was expecting some great hospitality but disappointed by the supervisor.

Tips for improvement,

Supervisor, customers are always first and right, so make sure they are happy, make sure you take their order and ensure that they are served. Leaving a customer waiting more than ten minutes shows a lot about the establishment. In Sydney and Adelaide, I would not receive this kind of service so why do I have to receive in Perth

Wait staff - no comment as the only person i really dealt was the...

Really bad. I used to go all the time for breakfast and it was decent. However, went there recently and didn't recognise any of the employees (not a problem, just seemed all new/inexperienced). Wasn't greeted with friendliness or prompt attention, and after 5-10 minutes of sitting there without being offered water or menus, were about to leave. It was not a busy day whatsoever, and it was very warm: the aircon/fans seemed either not on or not working. Eventually after a solid 5 minutes or more randomly chatting to a customer, the guy came over and stood there silently so I presumed I would give him my order. When the food came, the fruit toast was fine but we had to ask for butter, which seemed to inconvenience the waiter. Poached eggs were okay but when my hollandaise came a bit later (again had to ask for it), it was absolutely gross. Just really, really bad. Just before we left we overheard '...we've ran out of soy milk' which came as no surprise. As were were leaving, there was no greeting at all at the register from the other guy, just showed me the receipt and confirmed it. Not even a 'hello' or a 'how was your meal?' I'm not the sort to complain or write reviews and we were very nice and polite to both employees. We left quite astonished by how far downhill it's gone, especially given the location and potential. Granted, the hours they are open are generous which is why they can and likely will continue this terrible service as they know they will stay afloat regardless as there's not much else around. It's like neither guy cared whatsoever and it showed. I have had high school hospitality students serve with more enthusiasm and manners. Very rude indeed....

Such a shame as I have fond memories of "greasy's" from the 70's uni days and more recently romantic little lunches with the love of my life. In the words of my 4YO grandson when circumstances change (like he no longer wants that whole banana he squawked loudly to get), "Well not any more". We arrived a party of 3 and were dealt with by a Basil Faulty personality without any of the amusing traits. If he was a plant for the opposition he was doing a fantastic job and worth a bonus. I have been in the retail service industry for 30+ years, my partner (an extremely well qualified and successful customer service trainer) and our dear friend (a guest visiting from Japan where he heads up a chain of 50+ hotels) were told (less politely) that we could find somewhere else to to part with our luncheon dollars. We were stunned by the rudeness and totally inappropriate treatment. It started because we asked to sit at a table in the warmth of the sun. Totally unreasonable as it happens so thank you again, we had a delightful lunch down by the ocean at Cottesloe. If you have any financial interest in the place, sell sell sell or get rid of Basil and quickly with either option. If you don't have a financial interest, very wise, keep it that way and I'll save you some time with a handy tip, just go straight to...

Great little corner away from the bustling pedestrians. The waitress was friendly and attentive. Ordered a soy latte but received an iced soy latte. Didn’t mind it as the coffee was light and made well. Hit the spot for a nice and quiet afternoon. The panacotta was nice but wasn’t as light as expected probably because it’s around 3pm. The flavour was good but the experience would have been far better if it was the morning…. After looking at the photos, I realised that it would have been perfect if the cup was wiped after filling it with panacotta.

Got the Pork Marsala and quattro formaggio gnocchi. Gnocchi were fine, good texture and rich, creamy cheese sauce - enjoyed that part of the meal. Pork Marsala was OK at best; looked and tasted a little like a pork soup stew with a few veggies. I don't think either were worth the price point - even with the added cost(s) after using our takeaway Groupon voucher (paid $8 extra after the voucher so believe I was overcharged too based on the mains cost). Note garlic bread is actually garlic foccacia - decent. 3/5

Tiamo Cafe is probably an institution by now, with heaps of UWA undergraduates and alumni coming through its doors. I haven't been there in a while and while it is still excellent in terms of food (a tad bit spicier with the hot ones) the play still serves an excellent meal. The atmosphere however, while still contemporary and timeless, probably needs a slight refresh.
