Lovely little cafe, service is amazing, such friendly and accommodating staff! We had their speciality houjicha and matcha drinks, which we thought could be better quality. The foam on top was delicious, but the houjicha and matcha itself was quite bland, tasted almost just like milk with artificial strawberry syrup. But the food here was quite nice. We both got the mentaiko pasta, which I throughly enjoyed, they were very generous with the egg roe. It definitely could’ve been a better improved dish with possibly a runny poached egg, and with a bit more salt, as the pasta was missing a little something. The scallop nigiri was pretty fresh. Overall the food was quite enjoyable, but the drinks do need an improvement with maybe more matcha and houjicha in their recipe or using a higher quality powder. Would still come back to try their sandos and coffee.

food was soo good!! went there twice alr, once at soft launch and once after grand opening. we got the normal matcha latte and the special matcha which was a strawberry matcha with a foam on top. both was soo soo yummy the matcha has a yummy syrup on the bottom and the foam was rrly good on the strawberry. rrly reccomend their katsu chicken sando, it was so crispy and juicy with a soft bread. and their pasta and udon was rrly good for the price and also rrly tasty. they also had a good selection of sushi to choose from and staff were rrly fast and friendly!! will def come back next time !!

Extremely cute cafe / lunch bar with outstanding food and drinks. Japanese food made with actual Japanese sense of taste. The nigiri is really good quality and super delicious! It can be so hard to get good croquettes in Perth, but this one was perfect! You can tell by the taste that it's fresh handmade - light and crispy outside, creamy potato inside, not drenched in oil. The matcha is perfect - not too sweet. The special comes with strawberry puree to sweeten it in a perfect combo ♡

Finally, Hampden Road has leveled up! Yūgen-no Café has swooped in like a sushi superhero, saving us from the dark days when a Chinese family valiantly, but questionably, tried their hand at Japanese bento. (Bless them, but… phew, glad that chapter’s closed.)

This new kid on the block isn’t shy about showing off either. The name Yūgen-no already sounds mysterious and elegant, like something you would whisper while staring at a cherry blossom. But the real flex? Their aburi nigiri. Packed with flavour, flame-kissed, and ready to duel, these little sushi soldiers could absolutely body-slam poor Wok & Roll across the street.

And it doesn’t stop there! They got sandos and bentos lined up like a tasty to-do list for me. Translation: I’ll be back, chopsticks in hand. =)

Oh, and the coffee? Surprisingly solid! So if you’re craving a smooth brew with a side of Japanese flair, support the young legends running this place. They’re serving good vibes, good bites, and a seriously good reason to skip your usual...
