Perhaps this is a better option for takeaway pizzas as our dine in experience was very poor. We arrived not long after opening hours and after a somewhat awkward greeting from the staff we were seated and perusing the menu. The decor is very outdated and tacky. Lots of dust hanging off the fake grape vine over the front windows. Perhaps if there was music going it could have possibly drowned out the yelling coming from the kitchen. We ordered 2 drinks, wings, caesar salad and carbonara. None of the food was worth the money or the stomach room. The staff member that delivered our food may has well have thrown it at us. She dumped it on the table and walked off without a word. The wings were dry and the bones inside were black from overcooking. The carbonara was bland and overly creamy to the point it could have been a soup and the salad was the size of a side and consisted of mostly iceberg lettuce, a few peices of bacon, a very hot poached egg that had sat on top so long before it was delivered it had wilted the lettuce. There was a drizzle of dressing and there was no parmesan even though it was listed on the menu. Considering the amount this meal cost, I was more than annoyed when I was still starving after we finished eating. This all cost approximately $85 and the owners should be ashamed of how much they are charging for such mediocre food...
Read moreUndercooked, doughy crust and far too much cheese. Over the years, Vespa’s Pizza in Woodend has had a revolving door of owner-operators, some who got it just right, others missed the mark entirely and a few who landed somewhere in between. Right now, they’re squarely in the middle.
Good pizza is more than just slapping toppings on a pizza base. It takes balance, care and consistency. That’s what keeps the best pizza places in business. Vespa’s still has potential, but I wouldn’t be surprised if new operators are running the show before long.
Okay, I stand corrected. Not new owners, just different staff. In which case its having a captive customer base that enables you to serve sub par food because the locals will accept it. Still not good enough, either way.
More info? We were in around 1900 on Saturday 2/8, two pizzas, one large Hawaiian, one...
Read moreTold my kids off constantly and sat talking for over a half hour - then I find out she's the chef! It took two hours to bring out food with the kids pizzas being last! They were starving when we got ours and when I asked where the kids food was and told them I wasn't happy that they didn't feed the kids first as requested I was told to leave! We had a table of 12 too and it was my birthday! Other diners were gobsmacked and told me how sorry they felt for my kids and myself when I had not been rude in any way. Only positive was that the food was nice when it finally came, but never...
