The Milko — Restaurant in Woodend

Wow what a disappointment. What should have been an enjoyable break from a long drive went downhill very quickly. Main problem being a lack of manners, common courtesy and simple attention to detail. The four of us agreed that the food was a mix of bland and not bad but nothing special. Coffee was nice and toilet clean but everything else put a real dampener on our experience. When my 80+ year old mum asks for a pastie please, the correct response would be something like 'sorry we have no pasties left' not 'no pasties'. When you bring 2 meals to a table you bring 2 knives and forks, not 1. When your customer has to come and ask for the missing knife and fork you don't ignore them for ages and then just hand them over with no apology. When you bring out the coffee and it's not what was ordered you don't look at us in disbelief then storm off. One thing after another, the list goes on and on. Disgusting. And that applies to the food and service. Went there starving as hadn't eaten for a while. I asked for a breakfast and they snappily replied "we don't do full breakfasts here". Rude as. Got 2 bacon and egg sandwiches. Dry and gross. The bacon appeared in stingy chewy slices which was thin and appeared old. The serving was stingy. The smoothie tasted like nothingness solidified. The waitress plunked the plate unceremoniously in front of me. They forgot I had ordered 2. Thank goodness as my partner was able to eat half, there by saving me and thank goodness Paysanne was up the road so we were able to salvage our Saturday morning, with good food and great service. I was so disgusted with the service we received at Milko today. We have been long-term customers but we won’t be coming back after our really upsetting experience. You would think being a small family business, they would perhaps aim to be more polite and kind to customers. However, the barista was so appallingly rude to my mum over the coffee she ordered (she has a medical condition and needs a specific order) that my poor mum was fighting back the tears as we left. The barista loudly complained about how annoying and time consuming it was to make her coffee, leaving us both feeling embarrassed and my mum feeling very upset. I’m really disappointed that they couldn’t be the least bit accomodating when we have never had an issue with her order anywhere else. We won’t be back. How...
