Grabbed some lunch here recently and ordered the Mediterranean Spiced Slow Cooked Lamb in Turkish Bread with Chips and the Fish and Chips (as they had sold out of the Humpty Doo Barramundi and not told us when handing us the menus). The Lamb dish was not quite what we expected it to taste like but that said they were both delicious and as a side note, the chips were awesome!! The staff here were helpful but I would not say friendly. It was clear that they were busy trying to take drink and meal orders while also checking people in to their accomodation but this should be something to be celebrated in this current climate. We understand that they may have been short staffed but this ‘vibe’ clearly fed through the team and then through to the clientele as most people were eating and leaving quickly. Definitely would not say this was a fun dining experience. May try it again another time when it’s not so busy.

A great local historic pub and brewery right in the heart of Woodend, with warm decor that offers classic meals, accommodation and catering for events. Open every day from 12 noon til late, 7 days for lunch, dinner or just drinks, with a good selection of local food and drinks for all tastes. Food is always tasty, juicy, and delicious and very generous in size and reasonably priced. Suggest you try their favourites like the lemon pepper calamari for entree, the falafel wrap and chips or the pale ale fish and chips or their signature beef pie for mains, for an out of this World dining experience. Everything is always fresh and served quickly, and the staff are welcoming, friendly and professional too. Seating is very comfortable for couples or families and the restaurant is very clean with a fireplace to keep things cosy... and don't forget to taste their beer paddle! Very Highly recommended 👏👍😊

The food here is good but you come here for the beer. The variety of beers is impressive. The best way to navigate your way through their variety is to order a tasting paddle. Armed with tasting notes, you can then work your way through the paddle and discuss the pros and cons of each with friends. A visit to the brewery next door is a must. You can choose from the wide variety and take home a few favourites. Some of the beers are packaged in cans while others are in bottles. The staff at the hotel were good but the staff at the brewery next door even better. Holgate Brewhouse is a great place to visit when in Woodend. This pub and brewery has the best location in town from a hospitality perspective. It's directly across from the Clocktower with plenty of parking nearby. Worth a visit!

Called up and booked around 8pm on a Wednesday night to stay the next day which was a Thursday Asked for the room that they advertised as mountain views of mount Macedon Arrived the next day called up to ask for the entrance to the hotel no entrance had to go inside the pub asked for the car park no car park was told park where ever out the front Went up into the room was so shocked there was no table or chairs for breakfast was just a bar fridge with 2 chairs on either side and a tray on top of the bar fridge there was no view of the mountains it was just a window looking out at the road in front of the place and opposite side of the street was just shops and more road. The room was so old run down peeling paint musty old carpet and the room stunk of mould and im allergic too dust and have asthma so i immediately started coughing my partner he doesn't have any asthma and he found it difficult to bear the mouldy smell in the room also. Went down stairs explained too the manager about my asthma he did admit the rooms were old and carpet was old and that it was winter so the rooms were damp . He said it was ok and I could get a refund I said do i need that in writing he laughed and said of course not dont be silly so i thanked him apologized for the inconvenience and left Mind you it was a week night not a weekend. So we left and went to look for cleaner accommodation So after 2 weeks no refund so i called up and spoke with the owner there she wouldnt tell me her name but oh what a horrible nasty lady she was she refused to refund us and said theres nothing wrong with the room that its a bit old and i needed to get over it wow how charming is that telling me to get over it Well if you cant friggin breath how does one get over it . I then asked her about there advertisement claiming the rooms have a view of the mountains she said yeah theyre in the distance i replied no it was the road with cars going up and down Anyways she refused to refund and it was the most horrible nasty conversation she was so rude and abusive Please dont stay here its disgusting old smells of mould and wet damp carpet this place will definitely make you sick and the owner there she is the most horriblest person ive ever had the displeasure of dealing with stay away from this place and this hotel is definatley not 3 starts I will be calling consumer affairs to make a complaint the owners are liars and unfair and not honest they took our money and refused to refund us even though we were told we would be refunded How shameful and how disgusting that they lied to our faces . I found out months later another friend went there and stayed and had an asthma attack and had to leave again the owner she refused to refund my friend who had the asthma attack she had to go to hospital i told her she shud have sued them I will definitely be reporting this place and the owners They're disgusting cheaters liars and thief's stealing people's hard earnt money they shouldn't be allowed to...

I live in the area and have enjoyed many beers/wines and meals at this pub. I met the owner (I think) once and she told me about the history of the place as some of the fireplace tiles match the ones in my house. I’ve always taken friends and family visiting as it a cool venue. I don’t frequent the pub but I’ve probably been there 10 times in the last year. Unfortunately my last experience was horrendous. The first and last time I will ever stay overnight at this hotel. Check in was fine and the staff member was polite and showed me to my room, so far so good. I felt it was a little overpriced, but hey, I was willing to pay and that is not my gripe. I put my credit card over the bar and had a meal and couple of drinks, went to bed. I was told there would be any one working in the morning so I would have to pick up my card the next day on my way home, which seemed reasonable. Some hours after I went bed I was woken up by a staff member and dragged down stairs because my credit card declined payment. I was half asleep, standing there explaining that there shouldn’t be any issues with the card, while they were on the phone with my credit card company. I was treated like some deadbeat backpacker! I travel all over Australia for work and have never been treated with so much disrespect at any hotel/motel I’ve visited. To wake someone up because they were having issues with the card is unbelievable. For a moment I thought they were going to kick me out of the street right then and there if I couldn’t pay. Finally the credit card company said there wasn’t any issue and the payment was finally put through. I do not know what the problem was, but I didn’t get a sorry or anything other than a receipt for the bill. I just can’t recommend this place due to the total disrespect and terrible attitude of this single...

I feel as though this review is very necessary. This business has alienated the local people and their staff with this not taking cash business and now they think it's okay to only take exact change because you don't want to have a float in the till. Cash has been taken as payment for a very long time and for you to say that it's safer not to have it is an insult to your staff. As a hospitality worker myself I know how much drama this caused during covid and how much I myself was treated poorly by people who weren't happy about it and I wasn't either. I would never work at a business that would make me feel like a thief or insinuate that I can't be trusted to do my job and handle cash. This now means if people do pay cash they won't receive any change and the staff won't receive the tips either because oh no we don't have any change to do it. To think you would rather pay ridiculous fees and put that on to the consumer with no other viable option just proves you're not community minded and all those grants that went towards helping you develop your business and hire local people went to hiring migrants and not supporting the community at all. Sold out your products to the Chinese and don't trust your staff. Food is terrible and the owners think they're better than you and make you...
