Spilt Milk Cafe — Restaurant in Yamba

Over the past two days, my partner and I have purchased takeaway coffees from Spilt Milk. Unfortunately, both visits left us feeling quite disappointed due to the unwelcoming and rude behavior of the staff.

On our first visit, the staff seemed noticeably unfriendly, which we initially brushed off—understanding that everyone can have an off day. However, during our second visit, the experience escalated. As we approached the counter to order, we were abruptly spoken to by a staff member who was waiting for another customer to return with their wallet. The tone and attitude were unnecessarily harsh and uncalled for.

After ordering our coffees, we visited the organic produce store next door and then sat at one of the café’s outdoor tables with our sealed shopping bags. Despite the tables being completely empty, the same staff member came outside and spoke to us in an aggressive and accusatory manner, claiming the seating was only for customers who ordered food. We explained that we had purchased coffees and were simply waiting, but the interaction was unnecessarily hostile.

It’s disheartening to be treated this way, especially in a small town where community and customer service should be valued. After this experience I would rather consume a warm cup of toilet water than support this business

Our first visit and we're so glad we stopped in. The friendly staff told us straight up it was at least 30 minute wait, we didn't mind waiting, so we did. The Cafe was very busy. We could tell they were under the pump. We tidied our own table while waiting. Then the coffee arrived and I took a sip which was amazing, then put my cup down and proceeded to spill it everywhere! I apologised a million times and tried to help clean it but the young girl was so nice about it and cleaned up for me. So then I ordered another coffee while we waited for the food. The bacon & egg rolls were fantastic. We were told the cook was in training but those rolls were really good. I observed a customer being a little rude and demanding but otherwise the vibe was really nice. It was very obvious how popular this place was and that was a reflection of the food & service. Staff at this cafe are very rude you dont feel welcome there at all, the food is disappointing the eggs benny was sad the poached eggs were hard boiled and cold mocha was way to hot and didn’t taste like a mocha at all the iced coffee just tasted like water with a hint of coffee wasn’t drinkable, staff weren’t clearing plates off tables just walking right past them one customer took the dishes from the table to the counter so he could sit a clean table! The table next to us didn’t get cleared the whole time we were there with staff walking past it multiple times even shooing a bird away from eating the left over food but still didn’t take the plates! Very disappointing I will not be coming back and I’ll be warning others that plan to go there. Honestly better off with a breakfast meal from McDonald’s sad to say...
