Seriously!!! The owner needs to remember the quote "the customer's always right"!!! Especially when it's a life and death situation!!!! I have always loved this place and never had a bad experience until today. My partner, who's been a Head Chef for years, has an egg allergy (I know right? Chef/egg allergy??) so he knows what usually has or might have eggs in it. We asked the man serving us (who was really friendly I might add) if the scones have egg in them or egg wash (we ask every time we go out) and he immediately replied with confidence, NO EGG. I reiterated that my partner has an allergy! And he repeated NO EGG. 2 bites into the scone my partner felt the tingle in his mouth and commented that the scones were quite crumbly (which would be from the egg). Being the nice guy that he is, he was going to leave it and just not eat it. I told him to go and ask the Chef if it has in fact got egg in it. So he didn't get to speak to the Chef, the owner came out instead. He asked her if the scones have egg and she replied "Oh yes, all Australian scones have egg in them" 😯 what??? You obviously haven't tried the scones from the berry farm!! My partner, "the Chef, answers.." the man told us they have no egg" she answered " he wouldn't have said that because he knows that they have egg". My Partner said "i wouldnt have purchased them if he said they have egg, I'm allergic"!! This conversation went back n forth. The guy who served us had left so she said she couldn't ask him!! My partner never mentioned he was a head chef or that he's been cheffing for over 20 years, but i think he knows what he's talking about. After this conversation went around in circles, and the owner insinuating that my partner lied about her staff member telling us they had no eggs in them, he came and sat back down feeling quite ill. So i went in and said the same thing! I don't think this woman understands the seriousness of messing with an allergy in her establishment!! She argued that I wasn't there when she had the conversation with my partner, and that her staff member has left so we dont know what he said, so I told her again that we would not have purchased a scone with egg in it If we knew. I also suggested that she phones her staff and asks him if she doesn't believe us. Instead of apologising and checking that her patron was ok, she just kept denying that her staff would've said there was no egg!! I demanded a refund for the one scone that he didn't eat and I told her if my partner ends up in hospital, it's on her!! He is currently in the toilet throwing up!!!!!!!! Thanks for...

Read moreI would give this place 5 stars if it weren't for one person who works there....
There is a gentleman ( I believe possibly the manager) who is consistently rude and unpleasant. We are regulars at the cafe and this man always treats myself and others with a terrible attitude.
We have witnessed him on multiple occasions speaking terribly to the lovely young waitresses and baristas and even more shockingly to the customers, especially those with children. We have lots of friends and family who live locally and frequent Mid Century and they all agree his attitude really brings the place down. One friend even said if she sees him serving at the counter that day she wont even go in , she'd rather go somewhere else! That's saying something!!
Just last week a mother was struggling to get through the door with her pram and instead of helping he pushed straight past her in a huff without a second glance. In the past he's also become very irritated when we've tried to redeem a free coffee on our coffee card (why have a loyalty card system if you're made to feel terrible when you go to redeem your free one?). A myriad of other little incidents we've witnessed over time have finally persuaded me to write this review, which I hope has no baring on the rest of the staff or the cafe itself, its wonderful!
The female owner and rest of the staff are incredible, so kind and friendly, always remembering our order and stopping to have a chat. The food is great and they have an excellent place for kids to play which everyone loves.
As a loyal and regular customer I would urge someone to have a word with this man , he's ruining your...
