PRESSHAUS Illmitz — Restaurant in Illmitz

I am sorry as I can see there is a lot of positive feedback on this restaurant, but I feel the necessity to share my indeed not very pleasant experience with this exact restaurant, because however good or bad service and food may be at this place - hospitality, general empathy and friendliness should still be counted as values in our society. In June I participated in the event "Burgenland Extrem", which some may know, others may not. This year, again, the indeed extreme walk around Lake Neusiedl took place in summer. Thus, it was a hot day and on a walk of 80 or 120km (those who would start on 60km or less would not pass the restaurant that day) and lots of water to drink in order to stay hydrated it is an obvious fact, that one might need to use the toilet at some point. Maybe also not always just in front of or in close vicinity to the designated boxes the event manager was providing for the participants at the "refill stations". However, I had somehow missed the station in Apetlon, had a quite painful and urgent need to go to the toilet and in my desperation I very politely asked the personal of the Presshaus that had a door open for a delivery but did not have business hour yet, if I may use their facility. Very civilized and all. I did not intend to celebrate an orgy there. Just very politely asked, if I could use their facility to do the most human thing in private. To my great surprise and disappointment I was turned away. This meant for me to continue walking another 12km until the next station in Podersdorf, which I accomplished. Whatsoever, I will never recommend this place to anyone I know and of course I will never again visit this place. I hope, the owners rethink their policy and approach on unhappy visitors...

What an amazing gem of a restaurant in Illmitz! Stumbled on to this spot while looking for a tasty adult beverage and decided to have a meal after looking at the menu. This place is so good we came back two nights later for another meal here. The porcini mushroom and noodles are fantastic. If the pumpkin ginger soup is available get that as well it is served with a nicely grilled prawn. Everyone in our party was very satisfied and pleased with the food here. gehobenere Preisklasse, aber die gebotene Qualität, Liebe fürs Detail und das herzliche Service sind jeden Cent wert! Die Servierkraft war sehr freundlich und hat ihr scheinbar die Arbeit auch Freude gemacht, was bei Gästen immer gut ankommt. Was sie nicht wissen konnte, fragte sie einfach in der Küche nach. Zusätzlich wurden wir von der Chefin persönlich bedient und beraten. Es war total herzig zu beobachten, dass sie - es war scheinbar offensichtlich, dass wir nicht aus der Region kommen - sie versucht hat, extra für uns in Hochdeutsch zu reden, obwohl sie manchmal in die Mundart zurückgefallen ist 😃. Wir hätten aber auch mit dem Dialekt kein Problem gehabt 😅. Alleine das Gedeck war ein Erlebnis. Die unterschiedlichen Brotsorten, das Olivenöl, die Salzreibe und der bunte Pfeffer. Gefolgt von einem kleinen Fleischbällchen als Gruss des Hauses lässt sich die Wartezeit sehr gut überbrücken. Als Vorspeise hab ich mir mit meiner Partnerin die Muscheln in Paradeissauce geteilt. Das hätten wir nicht tun sollen.. die waren richtig gut und hätte jeder von uns eine Portion nehmen sollen 😁. Das Mangalizaschweinsschnitzel kam dann mit einem köstlich zubereiteten gemischten Salat, aber ich musste mir dann das 2. Schnitzel sogar einpacken lassen. Bedauerlicherweise konnte ich eine Nachspeise auch nicht mehr essen. Aber der hauseigene Blaufränkische 2016 war sagenhaft gut und nahm ich somit 2 Flascherl mit nach Hause.
