Tiroler Weinstube in Innsbruck is a cultural Austrian restaurant/pub. It doesn't strive for attention using fancy displays or an elaborate website. It is a local establishment that gives you a family-owned feeling that you may expect from a small-scale hotspot from the 70's and 80's. Charming in the sense that it never seems to make you feel marketed towards as a tourist, but slightly to the contrary as regulars stop their conversations as you walk in through a cloud of tobacco smoke to order a drink or request a table. The smaller non-smoking section is located in the rear while the few outdoor tables seem to allow for better ventilation. Rumors of massive serving sizes convinced us to order the smaller goulash plate with bread and the award winning best value choice pork with dumpling, gravy, and small side salad. What was served to us looked simple, but tempting. Exceptional taste and quantity for a fit couple in their mid-30's who are usually fairly critical of what they are served. Excellent value at €13.20 after tax (and €3.20 additional for a large dark brew) made us quite pleased with our experience apart from having to opt for a few annoying flies outside over a denser smoke filled interrior. Recommended mostly for the value and quality of the food along with the authentic feeling, less so for the person who has issues with tobacco smoke. Waitress speaks English. Read moreThe food was mediocre. We had a stringy but well seasoned roast of pork with a below average sauerkraut and a good bread dumpling, as well as a cheap grilled sausage plate and a extra side of potato salad. The potato salad was the highlight... pretty damn good.
The place was so smoky that it was bad in the non - smoking area. It didn't help that the only waitress working that night had to run through the glass divide constantly. She was also either overworked or just disliked us... either way, the service was efficient with an edge of mean. Also, the beer selection left much to the imagination (kaiser in 4 sizes and then 2 flavors of bottled beer).
The total bill was 17 euro for a sizable meal for two, including a beer. Id have personally rather spent a little more else where.

Read moreWell, I'm surprised that this place is only known by locals, because it really is a marvel. I think there are no words to describe it, you just have to go there and try! The dishes are fabulous, cooked very well, plentiful and at an absolutely advantageous price! My family and I had a family platter for 4, which included 4 schnitzel, 4 steaks, fries, rice, vegetables and mushroom sauce for just 32€!! Everything was DELICIOUS!! The only slightly negative note is that the owner is a bit particular, in the sense that she is quite neurotic, but never rude, and sometimes the communication with foreigners is a bit difficult, but that is absolutely no reason not to come here! If I were to end up in Innsbruck again I would already know where to have a...
