Food: Good. I had Tafelspitz and my partner had deer cooked in a red wine sauce with spaetzle. I must say I preferred my partner's dish but that is more a matter of taste rather than quality of the cooked dish.

Service: Great. Everyone with interacted with was courteous and friendly. Good recommendations were offered for wines to pair of food.

Ambience: Very good in the summer. It was a hot day, we had an outdoor table, the garden was lovely and the tranquility from the hubbub of St Gilgen was palpable.

Price: Not cheap but not expensive. It was a treat meal rather than a celebratory dinner.

Would visit: If you're in St Gilgen in the summer and fancy an early dinner to toast your holiday, then definitely make a reservation or come early (18:00) to avoid...

we were lucky enough - they have free table for 2 people without reservation. the gentleman gave us a table outside on the pretty terrace. the terrace has 2 areas with tables. it looked like one is for "better" custumers and 2nd for normal people like us. and it was pretty obvious that people in hiking outfits sat in the 2nd one, and customers with evening clothes set in the 1st one. This is hidden behind the road with a garden for good weather. The salad was delicious and presented beautifully, photo included. All kinds of fresh greens. The homemade pasta with cheese and onions comes in its own pan. Generous portion. This is the only veggie option on the menu. They had a delicious local red wine. My husband had the boiled beef. He found the potatoes to salty so they showed him how to mix the plate with the horseradish and also brought him boiled potatoes. Our waitress was charming. She took time to explain the menu.
