La Cantinetta — Restaurant in Sankt Gilgen

We visited La Cantinetta twice in the last months, but the two experiences greatly differed from each other. While we loved our first visit, we left with different feelings the second time around. We needed to wait a long time for our reserved table, the service was not very attentive, and three out of our group’s five portions were what a small half portion should look like. We gave what we trust was a friendly feedback, but to no avail. Even the best restaurants can have difficult evenings, but this situation could have been easily solved by a little attention or just a friendly word by the waiter or the owner. Great experience and food until the bill came. We were charged more than double the menu price (€23.80 for a single €48 double) for one medium sized fish which was clearly not a double portion. We were not informed this would be the case when ordering and it frankly ruined a lovely evening. We were also charged for 6 glasses of wine when we only had 4. Complained to the waiter and owner about our excessive bill but nothing was done. They also told us we could pay by card when ordering but this was not the case when paying and had to spend an additional 5% on cash withdrawals from the closest machine. The food is amazing, it is like a small local restaurant where they make fresh food by themselves, they are very friendly and customer oriented. A lot of options, including vegetarian ones. I also liked that they have some interesting non-alcoholic drinks, not just the regular options. Would definitely go there again! Just be aware you need to make a reservation, it is always full. The only thing I think could be improved is the music which is sometimes (!) very loud and you cannot hear the other person... But maybe it is just a...
