The worst experience in our whole Vienna trip. I would give 2 stars because it wasn’t the worst ice-cream in the world but since we were so hyped for this place (heard good stuff) and it was such a big let down I must give just 1.
First thing we saw after getting out of the U2 today was some old dated communist signs that looked horribly. Well first impression is first impression but we wanted to let the ice-cream do the talking and not how the place looks so we proceeded to buy some.
Well just to make things clear. If we hadn’t heard about Tichy before we would just turn around and went back to the center and eat the amazing ice cream there. Thats how horrible the place looks.
So to continue with my Tichy review. I ordered chocolate and lemon and my girlfriend banana and pistachio. Well mine wasn't that bad but compared to some other places in Vienna it just wasn't up to par. Also it felt like it defrosted and it has been cooled too much too quickly and there were some frosty flakes in it. But my gf's ice-cream on the other hand was a completely different story. Both pistachio and banana tasted the same after some alcohol. You couldn't taste either banana or pistachio in the ice-cream. Only difference in those two were the small pieces of pistachios in the pistachio one and a little bit different color. Also I wouldn't call those pistachios top tier... probably some of the cheapest stuff on the market since they didn't have the nice pistachio flavor in them. Both of us didn't finish our cups thats how bad it was. It was just not worth finishing. The price is not astronomical for an ice-cream in Vienna but I wouldn't spent a cent on it again.
The only reason I can thing of why people are visiting this place is that they are first timers like us and heard good stories or they would find it little bit Spanish not to go there. Das kommt mir Spanisch vor right? Well for me personally I will never ever visit Tichy again.
The last thing there is a big difference between something looking retro which is modern right now and something looking so dated like the owner doesn't give a damn anymore which is exactly how the whole place looks.
For me personally this is just a tourist trap, nothing more. You can find much better places for ice-cream in Vienna. Hope it...
Read moreFirst, there was a super long line in order for you to just enter. Also when we got to the entrance our turn came to get a table. An extremely rude couple just pushed us super hard and entered and acted as if nothing had happened. Nobody did anything or helped us in any way, and they got the table, and the staff also acted as if nothing had happened. When finally we were able to sit, we had to wait for something like 20 minutes on top of the 40 minutes we had to wait in line. Then we got to order and one of the things we ordered was spaghtetti ice cream which is very popular in Germany and Austria and guess what - it was one melted blob of melted ice cream with below average taste. It was absolutely nothing special. Then we ordered more things just to give the place a chance since it has more positive reviews than some absolutely amazing places and museums in Vienna, which was mind-boggling to me. And guess what again? Everything we tried was absolutely below average. If you honestly believe there is anything special about the deserts, there then you must be either raised by wolves in a forest or you had no experience with any deserts in your life. This is coming from a person who lives in a third-world country and does not eat many sweet things and is not a fan in general. Overall, it is not worth the money, the waiting in lines, enduring horrible service, or eating below average ice cream and deserts. There are better places to spend your money and time. Dont make the same mistake as us and trust the huge amount of possitive? reviews. Also, it is extremely loud and...
Read moreOur experience here left me confused.
We wanted to go for a late-night ice-cream run and saw on Google that this place is open until 23:00. We arrived around 22:20 which left more than enough time to enjoy an ice cream.
We asked if we could sit inside. The lady at the counter hesitated but then told us that it was alright. We sit down and order. I went for the “cointreau coupe” which was vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and a cointreau sauce.
Less than a minute later, ice cream appears in front of us which was the first red flag, in my opinion. How did they prepare it that fast? The answer became clear when I noticed my ice cream came in a plastic pot and had clearly been taken straight out of the freezer, pre-made. This made even more clear when I had finished my ice cream and noticed the sticker at the bottom of the pot (see photo).
It was around 22:30 when we got our order and the second red flag appeared. I could see the staff checking every minute or so whether we were done with our ice cream so that they could clean up for closing. All the unused tables had already been cleaned up and chairs put away at that point.
Now, I would have definitely understood if it was, for example, five minutes till closing time. Everybody wants to go home at the end of their shift, but they were still open for more than twenty minutes?
Honestly, they could have just told us they only do takeaway after a certain hour. That would have probably made the...
