Meixners Gastwirtschaft in Vienna is a hidden gem that has preserved the charm and culinary tradition of its founding in 1981. Despite not having a reservation, we were warmly welcomed at the door with excellent hospitality that immediately made us feel at home. Although there were no outdoor tables initially available—an area I highly recommend for its cozy ambiance beneath a large tree—we were offered a comfortable indoor seat and later invited to move outside once a table became free. The wine by the glass was excellent and reasonably priced, with the Grüner Veltliner being a standout choice. For mains, we had the Fledermaus, which was outstanding—the best schnitzel I’ve ever had—perfectly complemented by a well-seasoned side salad. The Rinderfilet was good, though it could have used a bit more salt and a more precise cook on the meat, but the accompanying potatoes were delicious. To finish, the chocolate ganache biscuit dessert was superb—rich, balanced, and the perfect ending to the meal. The draft beers were also top-notch. I highly recommend this place and will most...

For my first dinner out in Vienna, I had booked a table at the highly recommended Meixners Gastwirtschaft. It was easy to reach on public transport, and as soon as you stepped in the front door it felt warm and welcoming.

The menu was full of classic dishes from Austria, so it was great to sample some local dishes that were cooked to a very high standard.

I started off with Pumpkin Soup which was delicious, and very smooth. I then opted for the Schnitzel, which was the best I’ve ever eaten. Even though it was huge, it was very light, crispy and flavoursome. It also came with a lovely potato salad.

The service was very friendly, and you could tell that the team running the restaurant really cared about the experience.

Overall, I had a wonderful evening at Meixners Gastwirtschaft and I can see why it’s such a popular restaurant. The food is delicious and the...

The restaurant has a nice (albeit slight) late 19th century touch and serves classic regional dishes. I had a Zwiebelrostbraten and I have to admit, it was one, if not the best Zwiebelrostbraten I ever had. The meat was tender, juicy and slightly pinkish inside. The sauce was dark and powerful and mixed perfectly with the hearty, yet sweetish flavour of the roasted oninions. As a side dish I had cut roasted patatoes with had a near perfect crust and golden colour. The price with 23 € is a very good bargain for this high quality dish. And the Zwickl beer from the tab was a fitting addition to the taste. The waiter was very nice and forthcoming, yet not intrusive or annoying at all. Thereof, I have to admit that this restautant made a super first impression and I will come back fot the Schnitzel another day.
