Eissalon Trento — Restaurant in Vienna

Trento Bortolotti is a great Ice Cream Parlor in the vicinity of the United Nations Center of Vienna, also known as UNO City. This shop is run by native Italians from Apulia in Southern Italy. The staff is friendly and willing to help and here you easily can have a chat with the staff about back home in Bella Italia and about Austria for instance. The ice cream this place offers tastes great and there are many flavors to choose from. The variety is remarkable and you can either select your own ice cream scoops or you choose from the many ice cream arrangements here at Trento Bortolotti in Kaisermühlen, in Vienna's 22nd District, not far from the UNO City, Vienna's United Nations Center as one of the World's few UN Centers. Here you are located right in the middle of the Old Danube and the New Danube, where the Blue Danube is split into different river flows, only to reunite after Vienna to one big stream again. The Trento Bortolotti is light and bright also inside, and the patio where we had a seat is located at a big place named Schüttauplatz, built around a church with a chapel inside, which is devoted to the last Austrian-Hungarian Kaiser Karl I.

From Vienna with Love! Dr. Dr....

One of Vienna's best ice cream places. I enjoyed the Malaga, Coconut and Nutella ice cream a lot! Unfortunately they don't accept card payments which is extremely backwards, but still the case for most hospitality places in Austria. The waiter tried to explain me that they don't accept card payments because it takes longer to pay. Clearly they live in the past and have never heard of contactless payments which every bank card has already built in for the last 5 years or so by default. It certainly takes a lot longer for people to fiddle with physical money, counting, change, etc than just tapping a card against a machine in less than a second.

Anyways, the ice...

Letztes Jahr im Spätsommer hab ich mich mit meiner Frau am Weg zum Trento gemacht, nachdem ständig von diesem Eissaloon in den Medien und von Bekannten/Freundne geschwärmt wird.

Was wir nicht wussten ist, dass man mit dem Auto erst garnicht anreisen braucht und am Besten nur zu Fuß kommt, denn in der gesamten Umgebung gibt es viel zu wenige Parkplätze und Radständer, so dass man ewig suchen oder sich weit weg stellen darf.

Das Trento hat zwar 2 Lokale, wobei auf der einen Seite Eis nur am Sitzplatz servier wird und auf der anderen Seite Eis auch mitgenommen werden kann.

Egal in welches der beiden Lokale man möchte, man steht prinzipiell ewig an und hat das Gefühl den halben Tag in der Warteschlange zum Eis zu verbringen. Diese ist dann noch dazu an einem schön schmalen Gehsteig direkt vor einer Garagenausfahrt.

Kommt man schließlich endlich an sind die Verkäufer derart Genervt und unfreundlich, dass man am liebsten umdrehen und gehen will. Nachdem wir aber so lange angestanden sind, haben wir uns eine Box mit 10(!) Sorten mitgenommen.

Zu Hause angekommen direkt die Packung geöffnet und alle 10 durch probiert. Geschmacklich sind sie leider absolut kein Highlight. Es ist ein 0-8-15 Eis das nicht besonders in der Konsistenz oder im Geschmack ist und uns nicht vom angeblich "besten Eis Wiens" überzeugen konnte. Es ist keinen deut besser als das Eis von der gleichnahmigen Familie "Bortolotti". Man kann also getrost auch zu "Paolo Bortolotti", gehen wo man nicht so lange anstehen muss.

Ein meiner Meinung nach viel zu stark gehyptes total durchschnittliches...
