The hotel offers an EXCELLENT breakfast and is conveniently located near Austria Center Vienna, making it a great choice for attending conferences. The staff are generally pleasant and helpful; guests can borrow umbrellas at reception and store their luggage on-site. For sightseeing, most major attractions can be reached in about 35 minutes by public transport, with the nearest station just a 7-minute walk from the hotel. Overall, the value for money feels quite fair given these amenities.
The hotel also features a sauna, though guests should note that it must be booked/requested exactly 30 minutes in advance (neither earlier nor later, officially verified by the reception desk staff!) through the reception desk. Advance reservations, such as from the previous evening, are officially NOT permitted, although experiences may vary depending on the staff member’s (or perhaps your own) VIBES. The rules regarding the sauna are not clearly explained at check-in; we only knew to ask because I had read about it online, and we overheard few other guests expressing the same confusion when trying to use it. Also, there are different rules regarding sauna booking written at the entrance of the sauna (at least 30 minutes…), so just ignore them.
There are two main drawbacks, though these 100% reflect personal preferences. First, daily room cleaning is not provided by default and must be requested in advance (funnily, this CAN be requested the evening before, up until 9pm), reportedly in the name of sustainability. I do want to mention that cleaning is provided every 4 NIGHTS. While I appreciate the intent, I firmly believe a 4-star hotel should offer daily cleaning by default, with an option to opt out rather than in. The hotel also manages other services through an app, which may be modern, but in my opinion not every aspect of hospitality needs to be app-based. Additionally, the room felt a bit carelessly prepared. The curtains and the table were stained and the water jugs were empty when we arrived, which I guess could be avoided with a bit more regular room attention :-)
Additionally, you have to additionally pay for ‘the good wifi’.
By chance, I stayed in two other 4-star hotels in Vienna this past month, and despite everything I mentioned above, this hotel could easily have earned a 4/5 from me if not for one issue. I’ve stayed in many places around the world, from simple hostels to 5-star resorts, and I can confidently say I have never encountered reception staff who were this defensive, unexpectedly sassy, and at times quietly rude, even when I was simply and politely requesting that the sauna be turned on or asking a basic clarification. Throughout my stay, I didn’t feel welcomed; instead, I often felt like an inconvenience, as if I were somehow a difficult guest for asking perfectly normal questions.
No matter how good the amenities are, hospitality matters. Unfortunately, this experience was disappointing enough that I will not...
Read moreStayed at this hotel during my visit to Vienna during July 2024 with my family earlier this year. And I can say that the hotel had relatively nice facilities including a TV, air-conditioning, chairs & table, a fridge and a worktop table not to mention the room and toilet were relatively well maintained. Staff were also relatively friendly, polite & helpful, there were some nice views from my room and the windows of the upper floors around Vienna and to the surrounding countryside, and its location was very convenient for exploring the city as while its in the outskirts of the city, it was in close proximity to both the Metro (U-Bahn) & Bus.
However, while the facilities were nice, my issues with the hotel was that the service in the restaurant wasn't great for meals apart from breakfast, as the food choices for lunch & dinner were a bit limited and the service was quite slow on one day as the Euro football finals happened on that day and the staff seemed more preoccupied in fixing a fault with the bar TV rather than getting dinner ready on time. Another issue I encountered was that the lift became faulty on one day partially owing to the fact that there was a conference taking place and it stopped at every floor from the top when I was going down for breakfast. But on the whole, while there are some points to improve on, it wasn't a bad experience and it was convenient for my...
Read moreRooms are ok. No outlets near the bed unless you unplug the lamps. At the restaurant, we had lots of issues with the food and the staff were rude and very confused on what they were doing. Despite having a set menu (we were part of a larger group) there was a lot of confusion around what was on the menu. We ordered chicken, but we got pork which is not fully cooked. They kept trying to charge us for drinks which were supposed to be included in our meals. It was addressed several times with the management and yet the server still asking us to pay. More communication is needed between management and staff.
In response to your comment, Judith, the manager gave us the choice to order of chicken and rice or pasta with tomatoes and we were served pork with pumpkin chutney and the pasta also had pumpkin chutney on top of it. Not something that is normally served on top of pasta. The manager also confirmed that drinks were part of the contract. It was one particular waiter that even after being told multiple times couldn’t get it through his head that the drinks were included. So there seems to be some major communication problems between the staff, and potentially between the hotel and headquarters.
So you can take the feedback and fix the problem or you can ignore it and continue to get bad reviews....
