Ignaz & Rosalia — Restaurant in Vienna

This is a charming little spot tucked inside a small market filled with shops. Surprisingly, it was the only place open for breakfast, which made it a convenient find. The staff are incredibly helpful and courteous, always happy to guide you through the menu and help you make choices. The menu is available in English, with options for a set breakfast or the flexibility to choose your own. Whatever you pick, it’s tasty, comforting, and perfectly paired with their excellent coffee.

The indoor space is cozy, but there are also seating options outside, which adds to the charm. Adjacent to the café is a delightful cake and pastry shop, offering a tempting selection of treats. I was hoping for more from this lovely market stand. While the service was lovely and friendly, it was just way too slow. I was expecting a modernised 'gemutliche Kaffeehaus' and was really looking forward to a great coffee but was disappointed, the coffee is still like older traditional coffee houses. With Fürth coffee I was (misguidedly) expecting something closer to third-wave coffee. The wait for a coffee, a croissant and jam was about 15 minutes. I would have liked more options influenced from the connected bakery- Hüftgold. The breakfast menu is fine, typically Viennese. I gave it four stars as the staff is friendly and prices are low, and I'll go back in the evening for drinks at some stage, but I won't be returning for breakfast...

The Meidlinger Markt is a highlight in the southern part of Vienna. Whether you are looking for fresh fruit, vegetables or pastries, you will always find something new in the winding streets amidst the market houses. Be it old records or a rarity at the small flea market. At the end of such a journey, however, one is usually drawn to one of the coffee houses. Ignaz and Rosalia is much more than just a coffee house, but a place to get together. It doesn't matter if you want to have breakfast in the first sunshine at the weekend and enjoy the flair of the market or if you want to end the day with friends in the evening.
