Meidlinger Alm — Restaurant in Vienna

Months ago the waiter started to swear in German and smash the card machine on the table after he have been told that I didn't want to leave a tip. So we avoided the place for a long time. This evening we gave it another chance and another tip drama. After telling the waitress that I know "in Austria tip isn't included" (but not mandatory either), she still decided to type in the card payment machine €32,00 even if my total was €29,70. I see the overcharged total on the machine after the payment and at my request of explanations, she just gives me in shame the diffence in cash. I don't know in Austria, but from where I come from this is called theft. I might look like a tourist but I work and live in Vienna. You know what? I will give my money to more honest businesses. The waitress didn't get a €2,00 tip, the owner lost all the money we would have spent there in the future. The owner should give appropriate training...

The waiter was dishonest and not transparent.

Firstly, when I asked for an itemized breakdown before paying, and he just pretended like he didn’t understand and ignored us. He just requested us to pay (which I naively did), and then I found out that they charge for serving tap water??

Besides, he did not ask how much I wanted to tip, he just included an additional few euros without asking me. I understand that it’s normal to tip someone for restaurants with table service and I would have done so, but I just felt very odd that this waiter did not had the courtesy to ask?

I had to go up to him to request for an itemized receipt, and he looked unpleasant when I asked for it? As an Asian visiting an Austrian restaurant. I found it very upsetting and I felt that this waiter did it to target tourist like us.

Cozy location and good beer, but very poor service

We visited Meidlinger Alm and while we didn’t try the food, the beer was great and the place itself had a warm, cozy atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service was very disappointing. The waiter seemed grumpy and inattentive — at one point he disappeared for about 20 minutes, and when we finally tried to pay, he walked away in the middle of the conversation.
