We visited the restaurant on a Tuesday around 18.30 in July. A few customers were there and almost all of the tables were empty. We asked a waiter for a table for two. He asked in a pompous manner if we had a reservation. I asked if it was necessary....since almost all the tables were empty...and he started to mumble jumble sth nonsensical....Anyway...we sat...and ordered a szitzel, a trout with parsley potatoes and spinach dumplings. We also had a draught beer and a glass of white wine. Here I have to mention that I asked for a wheat beer but to my surprise the waitress answered that they had only ...normal beer...as if the wheat one is abnormal. We asked for tap water as well and she answered that they charge it too! So we ordered a sparkling one. The food was as if we were dining in a hospital...the parsley potatoes had not the taste of the parsley...only the color...the szitzel was oily....the trout and the spinach dumplings without character. As if eating in a hospital as I have already said. Not to mention the...normal beer. One of the worst I ever tasted. For all these we paid around 100 euros. This is a shame for the quality ...we did not get. All the time two musicians played traditional Austrian music....everything is set as a trap for tourists. Not to forget...A little after we sat I asked the waiter for the Gents...in vain! Only when the vulgar word....toilet ...was uttered he understood what I looked for... My advice...never go there...Vienna has better places to eat. Unless you need to be treated as a tourist in a...
Read moreGrinzinger is a very nice section of Vienna, and the beautiful district on the outskirts of Vienna is known for its Heurigen, for good wines and for the finest culinary delights. I believe most of folks come here to enjoy some good wine--new wine.
After visiting Kahlenberg to look down on the whole city of Vienna, we found this restaurant here. Well, actually my wife had been here a little over one year ago and enjoyed her meal, but she wasn't sure about the exact location. We parked our car and strolled around Grinzinger for a while looking for some place to eat. There were several other options, but we decided to settle in here.
Through the archway, we entered their biergarten. It had a very nice ambience. It wasn't too crowded when we got there, so we grabbed a table under a shade on a hot sunny day. Service was prompt and courteous.
Since we weren't too hungry, we decided to get Martin Sepp Platte--meat racks--schnitzel, croquette, roasted drumstick, vegetable casserole, fried potatoes and mixed salad, 19.80€ per person, and we shared it between us. What flavor! All the parts had great tastes, and we were more than satisfied. They offer a buffet for lunch and dinner. That's what my wife had when she last visited and enjoyed it, but it was already closed after lunch. Judging from what we had, lunch buffet probably would've been a good choice especially if you're very hungry.
We really enjoyed the ambience, service and food as we spent the late afternoon at Zum...
Read moreMy Viennese host (who is Asian) pre-booked a table for our group of 8 people at 18:30 on a Sunday. Note that our group of 8 was a mix of Asians and Europeans. Upon arrival my Viennese host was completely ignored by a female staff (who appeared to be in her late 30s-early 40s, and wore a traditional Austrian dirndl and had her dark hair tied up in a bun with 2 gold feather-like hairpins). This female staff member not only completely ignored my host & friend, she proceeded to seat two other groups who arrived well after us. I was shocked then angered by this very obvious display of racism. I wanted to leave immediately and take my business to another establishment, but didn’t for the sake of not embarrassing & upsetting my host and others in our group.
The decor at this traditional eatery was not particularly memorable. There was indoor seating and open air patio seating, and most were picnic benches. Not comfortable as my seat was simply a rickety bench.
Before ordering, we checked out the salad station and roasted meats which were pre-cooked & kept warm under heat lamps. Suffice to say what was on offer was uninspiring as the roasted meats looked like they’d been sitting under those heat lamps for far too long. The variety of salads were also rather sparse compared to what can be found at a typical Brazilian churrasco. I ordered a la carte instead and had a fairly good Austrian goulash.
Overall I would not recommend Zum...
