After almost five weeks in Bahrain, it was time to visit a restaurant which caters for a community of people who call this place home. That said, Iām not referring to just Bahrainy locals or their neighbours, just people whoāve relocated here. So youāll find many Indian/Sri Lankan/Bangladesi/Pakisrani/Nepalese/African/Philipino and a few expatriates.
Upon entering you immediately feel like youāre in somebodyās home. Framed posters of a gone by era is the theme of this establishment. Carpets are well worn, filthy and the decor could be from over 50- 69 years ago. However, its charm and homely vibe didnāt make me spin 180 degrees and leave.
The heavy dark oak door with a period knocker on it emphasised they donāt want change. If it isnāt broke, why fix it. Each room upstairs and downstairs caters for the size of your group or solo visits. Thereās smoking and non smoking. An outdoor area where thereās a large screen and men smoking shisha.
The staircase is busy, the service is frantic and the menus are pretty basic but reflected on the price. The staff are courteous, happy in their job and you can see they have regular customers here. I chose the non smoking area which was partitioned by a bookshelf. You could clearly see and hear the adjacent room.
Sat not far from me was a party of eight. All over age 35 and having a great time. They were Indian, raucous and didnāt care one bit of all the noise they were making. Very high spirits and I almost got up to join them at one point! Thatās the charm of Old Beams, a fun night, homecoming and no restrictions.
I ordered two popadoms, a garlic naan, mutton biryani and a bottle of Corona. My waitresses was Pilipino and funny. Food was served within 10-12 minutes. Iāve had better, but I still finished every part of the dish. It was very different to what a call a biryani but it was fine. Itās the free entertainment you get whilst here. Iād go back for sure. Itās a place my grandfather would have loved. Like old sailors who meet up and share...

If you like to have a quite drink while you do some work in your laptop or watch videos on YouTube or catch a flick from Netflix this place is got you sorted. The service is great. Staff are helpful. Good space upstairs and downstairs for a table and thier food is not bad either. It's not a 5 star restaurant. But sure is convenient for a quick drink or if you want to be away from the big fancy scene. Recommond see food here. Grills are also good and safe to have. Indian food is their Speciality. Although all dishes I have tried have been good so far. Parking can be tricky. But you will almost find something nearby.
Toilets are well maintained despite the building is old.
No other place beats this place when it comes to price. You will feel. Like being in an old cafeteria but it's convenient for the purpose. Wouldn't take family. Maybe just a friend or group of friends.
Noon quick drink is also nice here. No frills place just come for a...
