Shokudo — Restaurant in Aarschot

3 stars because the overall experience was ok. Asked the waiter for some wasabi during our first course ( love wasabi) and he replied saying that maybe it's better if I have it next course. Didn't comment but found it very unprofessional his reply. Over all the dishes weren't exceptional. Also for the setting eating in a room where there is a TV is so disturbing on so many levels. Ever seen in a nice restaurant a TV? The answer is no! There is such a thing as too much marketing! Name on the glasses, name on the napkins, name on the sugar, name on the TV name pretty much on everything. Clearly should have paid more attention to his guests in setting the restaurant and and ambient in a traditional feeling. Furthermore serving soy sauce from a glass bottle doesn't make it look classy or traditional, it actually has the adverse effect. Definitely not the best but not the worse either. Feed back is key, and for such a place I think they can do...

This was not our first time we came here for sushi, but first time we decided not to take a sushi boat, but select a few different sushi plates. We decided to have 3 warm rolls as we were not taking out and we could enjoy the rolls served hot. 45minutes after ordering we thought they had forgotten about us as other tables arriving after us had received their food. Mooie zaak met matig eten. Avond was goed begonnen. We mochten plaats nemen in één van de twee afzonderlijke boxen, wat zeer gezellig was.

Als voorgerecht aten we Dimsum en Scampi Tempura. Heerlijk waren deze!

Als hoofdgerecht aten we Teriyaki Scampi (gegrilde scampi gemarineerd in een gesuikerde sojasaus) en een mix van Sushi, Nigiri, Hoso en Sushi Roll (rauwe vis op verschillende manieren). De Teriyaki was vrij lekker van smaak al zwom alles een beetje in de marinade en de scampi leken eerder gekookt dan gegrild. De mix van allerlei rauwe vis was teleurstellend. ALLES proefde zoet. Ik hou eerder van frisheid met af en toe pittige.toetsen. Zoetigheid hoort wat mij betreft niet bij vis.

Als afsluiter dronken de heren warme sake. Altijd lekker dit! De dames aten een dame blanche. Diepvries ijs met koude chocolade saus uit een potje en een goedkope slagroom. Wederom een teleurstelling.

Tijdens onze afsluiter werden we bovendien meermaals buitengekeken. Op een bepaald moment kwam men zelfs zeggen dat we binnen 10 minuten de tafel moesten vrij maken "als we dit niet erg vonden". We zeiden van niet maar uiteraard vonden we dit niet aangenaam.
