First of let me start by saying there was one waitress in the entire restaurant, they might have been short staffed but when we sat down at 19:15 the main course only got served at 21h, this is almost more than two hours of waiting time. The service was friendly but not experienced compared to other places in Antwerp.
We asked for bread and got a singular slice per person which just felt like a joke. We got so bored of the slow service we didn't have any desserts. She didn't check in on us if we wanted to order more drinks which resulted in us just getting up, paying and leaving.
They told us only after 30mins there were multiple items not available on the menu even though the restaurant was pretty much empty. (so bad restocking of the kitchen I guess?)
After mentioning the long waiting times for the food to be served she said sorry but I don't understand how this isn't noticeable as a waitress that your table is waiting ridiculous amounts of time for their food. Ordered more water and drinks eventually and they also took 30 minutes to get that to the table, the food was eaten by then.
Food was okay-ish, if you're a hobby chef at home with fresh ingredients you would be able to make the same at home if not better. Portions are also small-ish for the price you pay. Wine was good. There are way better places to go...
Read moreMy husband and I had an incredible final dinner in Antwerp! Le John exceeded expectations - the interior and atmosphere is a very cool, curated and artsy vibe with different floors/rooms that offer varying levels of privacy.
We ordered oysters and foei gras (starters), wild boar ravioli and pumpkin tortellini (mains), crepe brûlée and chocolate fondant cake (dessert) - ALL INCREDIBLE 5/5. It has been a very long time since we ate at a restaurant that met our silly standards.
The staff were equally as wonderful greeting us the moment we arrived. Nadal was the waiter who took care of us this evening and was very friendly and attentive. He made suggestions for our dinner based on our feedback and was super prompt all through the evening (he never made us feel rushed even though it was a friday night, very busy).
Thanks for a lovely evening. Would...

With an affordable menu and a slightly more challenging wine list, it provides guests with the option to restrain themselves or to go all out. Both those options will produce a happy guest. The interior encourages you to make an effort, as it’s not a backwater diner. The staff are friendly and (usually) not your average restaurant personnel. Next to the entrance you get the chance to observe the kitchen staff doing their thing and there’s a more secluded upstairs area too. I think it one Antwerp’s most interesting places to start a...
