Mampoko offers a delightful dining experience with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant features a tasteful nod to its namesake in the Congo, with beautiful artwork adorning the walls. The simple decor creates a relaxed ambiance, perfect for enjoying a meal indoors on a rainy day.
During my visit, the soft glow of candlelight added to the cozy atmosphere. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive, and the restaurant became noticeably popular as the day progressed.
The food at Mampoko is a delicious exploration of flavor and texture. The bread is a delightful starter – soft, slightly warm, and fluffy. The cheese croquettes are a must-try, boasting a perfectly crispy exterior that gives way to a soft, yet not-too-oozey, cheese filling. The accompanying salad provides a refreshing counterpoint to the richness of the cheese, while the pink sauce adds a subtle tartness. The shrimp croquette offers a delightful contrast – soft and pillowy with a delicate sweetness that highlights the fresh shrimp flavor.
For the main course, I opted for the chicken, which was cooked to perfection. The accompanying peppercorn sauce was smooth and creamy, with a pronounced pepper flavor that complemented the chicken beautifully. The mashed potatoes were light and fluffy, bursting with herbal notes.
Overall, Mampoko offers a charming dining experience with a touch of Congolese culture. The warm atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious food make it a great choice for a relaxing and...
Read moreRecommend highly, away from the centre of the city with a suitably varied menu, including regional favourites.
Have enjoyed everything I've eaten here from the croquettes to the filet mignon steak.
Now I have been here four times, considering I've only visited Antwerp twice I think this shows that there certainly is a reason to come back.
The second time in Antwerp I booked the table before we arrived for the first night especially as there were going to be eight of us. Everyone enjoyed what they had.
The portion of mussels as a main is probably more than most of us would have liked to eat, though we did manage to finish them. Maybe as a starter,or a main, it could be shared between two.
The staff are friendly, and reasonably attentive.
When I go back to Antwerp, it's such a chilled city I'm sure that I will, I know where I shall be eating on at least one...
Read moreReally poor! Whilst the food was tasty, it just took too long to arrive.
We ordered everything within 30mins of arriving (drinks, starter and main). 30min later, the waiter came to tell us that one of the starters we ordered wasn’t available. So we had to order something else. Also our wine order had been forgotten (even though the waiter wrote it down on his notebook!)
We were sitting at our table already for 1hr and our starter hadn’t been brought yet!
After 2 hours 15mins, finally our main course arrived!! Just not acceptable!
Not enough staff in this place, and really badly managed. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone!
To be clear, the staff that work here do their best - there’s just not enough of...
