Belgium Pier — Restaurant in Blankenberge

We came in with the expectation of having dinner in a fine restaurant with view over the sea but it turns out that the back part of the building towards the sea seemed to be reserved for events and the day to day business is in the front part with view on Blankenberge, which is also nice (ones the construction work for the new pier is gone - right now you need to have the right seats. )

However, it is not a restaurant rather a small bistro, which is reflected in the offer.

Overall the food was not of the same quality level throughout. It varied.

The sliptong for example was great and of a very good portion size. The bouillabaisse had a lot fish and not just small parts , which you can’t use for other dishes, but larger parts. And a lot of small shrimp. However it didn’t contain larger prawns.

On the other hand there was the meat, which was grilled with so high heat from the outside, that the crust was very hard and dark (inside it was indeed medium as ordered ). This was acceptable but didn’t reflect the best cooking practices.

Really disappointing was the tuna sashimi. I’m not sure how fresh the tina was, but it was very tough, which I’m not used to from tuna sashimi.

There was an older lady as staff, which was friendly and engaged and professional. The other staff was young and seemed inexperienced. Most of them were very friendly.

Overall it was a mixed impression. We are not completely done with this bistro and will try again the suitability for coffee time because of the location. Especially, when the construction work of the pier ...

Only thing is worth, is the view. And they've got that going for them.

Everything else was beyond disappointing. Service: Service was rude and unhelpful. Even though there were seats unreserved, empty, they did not let us seat there. It wasn't necessary to "yell" at us that they're reserved, so that the other guests look at us. The seats stayed empty for our whole 20 minutes visit (maximum).

We wanted to eat breakfast but it seemed like nobody cared about that, so we ended up drinking our coffee and went our way.

The decorum: The seats look like they've survived 3 wars. They're beyond used, they're beyond their time. They're worn out and...

Sehr schlechter Service und preislich unangemessen kleine Portionen! Der Service war sehr unaufmerksam und wirkte lustlos - so saßen wir sehr lang, um überhaupt erstmal die Karte zu erhalten. Gäste an unserem Nachbartisch schienen bereits sehr lang zu warten (sie saßen bereits, als wir das Lokal betraten) und verließen das Lokal, ohne etwas bestellt zu haben. Nach sehr eindeutigen Gesten unsererseits, beendete das Personal ihre Klatschrunde und bemühte sich zu uns. Indessen warteten neue Gäste um am Eingang abgeholt zu werden - es gab einige freie Tische und das Personal hatte keinen Stress, war aber so mit ihren Tratsch beschäftigt, dass diese Gäste unbemerkt blieben. Diese Gäste gingen wieder.. Weitere Gäste näherten sich dem Eingangsbereich und nach einigen Minuten des Wartens kam ein Kollege (evtl. höhere Funktion) und machte darauf aufmerksam. Erst nachdem wir unseren Unmut kund taten, war ein junger Kellner bemüht und wir konnten nach vielen Minuten des Wartens bezahlen.. Neben dem was ganz offensichtlich für jedermann nicht in Ordnung war, gesellten sich noch mehr Dinge hinzu: wir fragten um zu speisen und bekamen lediglich eine Getränkekarte die Kellnerin zog sich zum Quatschen an den Tresen zurück / meine Suppe wurde serviert ohne Löffel (kann passieren), ich bat um einen Löffel die Kellnerin ging, um jenen zu holen und auf dem Weg versank sie abermals in Gespräche mit ihren Kollegen und stand und stand und stand und quatschte. Erst nachdem wir abermals aufmerksam machten, führte sie ihr Vorhaben aus und der Löffel schaffte es zu unserem Tisch - bevor die Suppe erkaltete. Trotz der schönen Lokation können wir eine Besuch...
