Du Gaz — Restaurant in Bruges

This was the first and only time in Europe that I have been refused service for no apparent reason. My friend and I were excited to try this place, but the owner/waiter was incredibly dismissive and rude. We ordered drinks, and after this he passed us about 15 times before he would agree to come to our table again (we were the only two in the restaurant indoors, where most were seated outside—we had chosen this so we did not sit near the construction noises). We had seen sandwiches (croques) brought out multiple times and were excited to order them. We finally flagged him down and asked to order the sandwiches at which point he claimed they no longer serve sandwiches. This was an obviously blatant lie as he had just brought them out minutes before, and there was no time limit for the food options on the menu. We left but felt very uncomfortable. Passed by a few times during our stay in Brugge and stopped to have a drink and a snack. Nice outside area to sit in and very clean. Waiter/owner spoke a little English but very pleasant. Menu not in English but we used Google Translate to help us. Cash only as the card machine was not working, which wasn’t a problem. Ordered toasties and chips which came with a nice side salad....
