Folklor Restaurant — Restaurant in Etterbeek

It is a sober, but enjoyable little restaurant, with some dark interior, but with lots of windows, so the daylight gives the whole a much brighter atmosphere. I have gotten myself a sort of pancake-like meatloaf (sadly don't recall the name) composed of ground beef with ground pork, ground lamb and chopped onion. It is served with with some salad and either fries or rice. A tomato sauce is served as well, and even though it doesn't taste bad, I prefer enjoying the full flavour of my meat. About the taste of the meat, I could discern the flavours of lamb, onion and beef, but sadly, I am not in full ability to taste correctly more subtle flavours, due a nasal congestion. The glass of red wine was alright, nothing mind breaking. Taste is very, very close to Rubin, another Balkan wine I get to drink from time to time.

Great restaurant with entertaining staff. Very family orientated and very relaxed. Food and drinks were good whilst reasonably priced. We shared a decent bottle of red that complemented the rib eye nicely. We ordered medium rare but I'd say was more on the rare side without being blue. Regardless, a nice cut of meat that tasted delicious. The staff are worth engaging with as they have a very funny/cheeky side that adds nicely to homely ambience. Brussels is loaded with Belgo-French and Italian restaurants (not to mention friteries), so stumbling upon Folklor and its slavic cuisine was a nice surprise. The service was great and the food was reasonably priced with hearty portions. Only complaint was a scant wine list (and only one beer available ... in Belgium, that's unacceptable). Otherwise, this is a great changeup to the average...
