Before visiting the Basilica we need a place for quick lunch. Can’t quite find a place that we like near Simonis station so we get off one stop early at Belgica. When we get there we found out that the pasta/pizza place we planned to go was closed til May. After checking out a few other “cafes” shown on Google Maps - which are actually not a cafe but bar instead! - we went to The Sunshine. The man is very friendly. He speaks some English words only, and the menu is in French, but with Google Translate it’s not a huge problem. We ordered sausage with mashed potato, rigatoni bolognaise, and the Belgian grey shrimps croquette. They know our kids are sharing the pasta and already separated them on two plates when they serve! One may think it’s a small local restaurant in a non-tourist area and food may not be fresh - but the salad I had was so fresh and nice. My picky daughter said “oh the pasta is so yummy” for five times 😂 The mash is not the usual creamy mash that you find in most places, but you can still eat very tiny pieces of potatoes in there, and it is mashed with some other green vegetables which makes a great surprise on taste. There’s also another older lady whom I believe is the chef. She doesn’t seem to speak any English but still smiled at us đŸ„° The lunch we had was not just about the food, but it’s a wonderful experience at a local restaurant as well. And great interactions with the local people even with the language barrier 🙂 Would highly recommend any tourists to try this if you are visiting The Basilica - it’s less than 20mins easy walk.

Place seemed like a small Italian owned business. The attention was okay. I was provided with bread and industrial butter upon arrival. The bread was a baguette and it was cold also TBH I went close to their closing time. I ordered a Tagliatelle with shrimps. The paste tasted good, well balanced but I wasn’t able to distinguish if it was homemade. The flavours were awesome and it was quite quite creamy. Where it lacked was on the abundance of the shrimps. I think I would have expected more but this is my first time trying this dish so I might be mistaken. This place has a lot of potential honestly.

Very big pasta portions, you can use take away option. Tasty Cordon blue. Cafe's holder is pure Italian, very polite, speak English a few. Cash only.

Hey! I noticed you don’t have a website — I’d love to build one for you, totally free. I live just two streets away and really love the food here. Let me know if you're interested! (I’m trying to build up my portfolio and get some real-world experience — helping local businesses like yours means...
