Bistro Marée — Restaurant in Knokke-Heist

The food was actually quite nice, no complaints there. However, the service completely ruined the experience. The lady who seems to be the owner, was incredibly unfriendly , almost rude and made hardly any effort to speak another language than Dutch. English would have done it, with a friendly attitude. And this even though it’s clearly a non-Dutch- speaking tourist-heavy area. It felt like we were an inconvenience rather than paying customers. The only time she managed to show any sort of friendliness was when it came time to collect the bill — how convenient. Rarely have I felt so unwelcome in a restaurant. A real shame, because the kitchen definitely deserves better front-of-house representation.

Heerlijke (dikke) pannenkoeken, wel jammer dat ik alleen bruine suiker erbij kreeg. De klant de keuze geven of zowel witte als bruine serveren zou wel mogen. Kinderijsje is duur voor wat je maar krijgt, metalen potje met twee (wel grote) bollen ijs, maar ook hier werd geen voorkeur gevraagd en krijg je tweemaal vanille. Verder enkel koekje bij, zonder iets van versiering of fantasie voor de kindjes. Koude chocomelk is gewoon blikje cecemel met rietje in. Personeel was niet echt vriendelijk. Wel microgolfoven aanwezig voor de klanten. Voorraad drank (bakken) stonden opgestapeld naast de toog in het zicht van de klanten. Geen goede...
