The first cat café in Liège is, unfortunately, very disappointing. When I went there, only 4 cats were in the main room and they were all napping. Though apparently cats have a private back room in which they can rest in peace, four cats is definitely not enough. This place definitely needs MORE CATS.
Not to say, there are very few options for both eating and drinking. While the number of drinks on the menu is okay, their price is not. Speaking of expensive, the very few options we have for eating (pancakes, cupcakes which aren't on the menu, etc. -- In total about 4-5 options) are very expensive compared to their quality and quantity. The pancakes were okay, but somewhat tasteless.
Also, for some reason the waiters do not come and get your order at your table. You are told to go to the bar to order, but why? There are maybe 20 tables in the room, would it be so bad to offer table service? At least the waiters are nice. Awkward, but nice.
But that's not all! This place has very few structures in which the cats can play and that can be seen from outside: the room looks empty. To me, that's the most important aspect because the cats look bored to death. Also, it would be more interesting if some of the cats were purebred. Not that I don't like alley cats, but it would definitely help seeing breeds of cats that we don't usually see or have at home.
I'll end with the following: the main room is too noisy. Not just because people talk (which should still be kept as low as possible to make the experience more calming and maybe even therapeutic which their choice of music help), but because everytime someone asks for a coffee, the waiters do their job and go to the coffee machine and turn it on. In the same room. Doing an incredible amount of noise. Very, very unpleasant. Please do that in another room. For your customers' and cats' sake.
Conclusion: disappointing, not enough cats, expensive, unpleasant.
I hope this review will be received as criticism from someone who loves cats and who hopes for the Merlix to improve because this is what it's...
Read moreCats were napping most of the duration, they walk around but are very shy and unsocial. Food wasn’t totally amazing either.. My friend and I ordered a smoothie bowl that wasn’t thick enough, and didn’t have enough granola. It also took some time to be served. It was very runny, almost watered down. Definitely not worth €7. Another friend ordered a hot chocolate, which also tasted very watered down. Many of the items on the menu were not available to us, and I wasn’t able to order what I wanted. Staff if very sweet, fortunately. If you come, come...
Read moreC’est une très belle café!! I am actually allergic to cats, but when I walked by and saw the kittens in the window and the beautiful energy I had to go in :) The staff are friendly and kind, and genuinely seem to love what they’re doing. I enjoyed playing with the kittens and felt a natural atmosphere, where you can relax (and it’s so clean and well maintained that I didn’t have allergies). Loved the iced gourmet coffee with m&ms.... yum! Will...
