Het Moment — Restaurant in Lier

Visited twice during my time in Lier. The first time we came in midday for a couple of drinks. Service was good no problems. Second time I came in with family for a drink. I come to Belgium every year to visit family in and around the area and have genuinely never been treated so poorly, a rude middle ages server with greasy hair, was taking our order when he stopped to shush a member of the group and in perfect English told us he didn't speak english, before continuing to take the order in english.... Having spent the last few years trying to learn Dutch i can confirm it isnt difficult to translate beer to bier. Wouldn't bother visiting unless you enjoy being spoken down to. The person who took our order wasn't very helpful. Im still not sure whether he misunderstood us or wasn't interested but we explained that we had a wonder box reservation but wanted to order a la carte and pay extra. He didn't give us a clear answer whether we could and kept suggesting the wonder box solution (mixed grill meat/fish). Eventually we went for his suggestion anyway. The food was OK but not very special. My gf took the mixed grill fish and mentioned that she only tasted the grill, which is unfortunate. My mixed grill meat was fine. We've also ordered desert which was good. All in all not a bad restaurant, but having ordered a la carte probably would have improved...

Stopped by for lunch near the main square in Lier. It was quite busy on the day, and we were told to look for a table in case one is free. After finding a table and them cleaning it, we quickly ordered (though the waiter did not look like he was paying attention) and received our food swiftly. The spare ribs and "Vlaamse stoverij" were delicious, for a decent price as well. The fries were broad ones, but not quite crispy enough for my taste. But that's personal preference.
