Bistro Bottarga 🇫🇷 — Restaurant in Ostend

AVOID THIS HORRIBLE ESTABLISHMENT if you care about your health, food allergies, civility, and professionalism!!!

The waiters and kitchen staff very nearly landed my son in the hospital by disregarding our multiple inquiries prior to ordering about dishes containing gluten (my son is Celiac) - and then they had the audacity to accuse me and my husband of over-reacting!

They quite literally pointed their fingers in our faces, laughed at us about exaggerating our son's intolerance/allergy, and threatened to call the police when we tried to leave!

I actually wish the police had been nearby to witness firsthand the UNPROFESSIONAL, RUDE, and DANGEROUS operations of this rotten place.

Bistro Bottega and their AMATEUR and RUDE STAFF deserves a formal citation for operating as a PUBLIC HEALTH HAZARD!!!

UPDATE: In response to the owner's remarks...

1. It is your responsibility operating in the food and beverage industry to adequately train all staff members in matters of food allergies.

2. There are "mistakes" and then there are "inexcusable mistakes". Errors in communication to customers about the composition of your dishes, after multiple preemptive inquiries to two waiters, does not qualify as a simple "mistake." Especially when a child's health is involved.

3. Neither you nor your waiters actually apologized to us, for the record. And it is certainly not our job to apologize to you under such circumstances.

4. You, the owner, were not present in the front of restaurant to witness how your waiters actually behaved and treated our family. They, in fact, were quite rude, mocked our concern as parents, pointed their fingers in our faces, and physically blocked our attempt to exit when we decided it was pointless to reason with such individuals. I suggest you consider hiring individuals with more professionalism and better people skills.

5. To be very clear, we did not consume ANY of the food we initially ordered (aside from my son's first bite of his burger containing gluten). We left everything untouched on the table. We did not trust your kitchen or staff after this "mistake" and insulting treatment to stay for a...

How sad! The menu looked great but there was only one waiter for the entire evening for over 50 guests. We got asked what we wanted for drinks exactly once all evening. He was in such a hurry all the time that he neither couldn't find time to ask for nor could be asked for anything. The starters were partly great (crevette croquettes, 14€, convenience food pre-fried but that's totally ok for me) but partly consisted merely of dry old bread without any spread or dip. The very fancy charolais beef burger patty of the main dish (25) was just awfully dry and entirely overcooked. What a shame and waste of ressources! The fries were way too oily, wobbly and simply had no taste... Most McDonald's menus can do better than this! Maybe they just had a bad day but for a 90€ dinner for two it just wasn't good enough...not even nearly. Heel jammer van je arrogant gedrag. Ik ben al een paar keren bij jullie komen eten en na vandaag zet ik daar geen voet meer binnen. Het is allemaal begonnen omdat we maar met zes waren ipv met zeven daar onze collega om 19u10 had laten weten dat hij niet ging afkomen. (Wij hadden om 19u15 gereserveerd). Moest je heel arrogant antwoorden jullie moeten dit laten weten ik ga de chef gaan verwittigen! En poef je was weg. Enfin erna vraag je wat mag het zijn als aperitief. Daarna kom je opnemen wat we willen eten. Ik vraag vriendelijk kunnen we als hoofdgerecht de garnaalkroketjes krijgen dit was geen probleem. Maar ieder mens met een gezond verstand weet dat er met een hoofdgerecht frietjes, puree of kroketten mee opgediend worden. Blijkbaar niet. Dit hebben we pas ontdekt toen we het hoofdgerecht kregen. Maar mijn collega’s vroegen dan hun hoofdgerecht alle 4 een curry schotel. Bij collega nummer drie was het weer je arrogantie die het overnam. Wat zal het nu zijn want ik kan dit niet blijven veranderen. Mijn collega had zelfs nog niets gevraagd (noodles of rijst was de keuze). We hebben dan ons eten ontvangen. Sinds de aperitief tot dat we de rekening hebben gevraagd heb je niet eens de moeite gedaan om te vragen wat we nog iets wouden drinken. Onze aperitief was op voor dat onze hoofdschotel er was. Dus je we hebben dan maar beleefd de rekening gevraagd en betaald. We zijn erna naar een zaak geweest daar hebben we nog drinken en elk een dessert besteld. Je had nog zeker €150 meer kunnen verdienen als je geen zo’n arrogante manieren had. Waarschijnlijk vind je dit allemaal niet omdat het je eigen zaak niet is en je lekker per uur wordt betaald. Wel heel jammer voor je baas. Want ik had geboft over de Bottarga en je had vijf (plus hun gezin en familie) potentiële nieuwe klanten bij kunnen krijgen maar, ook zij willen daar niet meer komen eten. Enfin een hele boterham maar het moest eruit. Complimenten aan de chef want het eten is er nog steeds lekker! En ps die andere jongen had het gezien dat we geen drank hadden. Heeft dit ook aan je komen melden en je hebt je handen opgetrokken. Wij zaten aan €33 pp maar je met 1 drankje een hele avond dit maakt het gaan uit eten idd...
