While the general atmosphere and aesthetic of Doppio Zero is genuinely quite appealing the food leaves a lot to be desired.
My girlfriend and I ordered the spicy prawn fritti and barbacoa soft shell as our starter, the prawns weren’t spicy at all and had a strange aftertaste, the soft shell tacos were reasonably enjoyable (and the only reason their food isn’t rated a one star from my experience) but unfortunately the best part of our meal.
For our mains we ordered the pollo al forno and ragu rigatoni, of which were both easily the worst pasta we had both ever had in our lives. Completely unseasoned and flavorless, we were so shocked pasta could turn out this bad that my girlfriend didn’t have more than 5 bites of her pollo al forno.
We opted not to get dessert because we had lost all faith in the establishment. It really didn’t help their cause that our waiter took forever to assist, and we weren’t the only ones that experienced that. We saw an old man sitting alone complain multiple times to bring his bill. It was at that moment we decided to end our meal and look elsewhere for dessert and drinks.
I’ll give them the benefit of a doubt that they’re still new, and I would be willing to try other menu items with a different waiter. Unfortunately however they’ve left a bad first impression on...

First time - alone
Waited a few minutes at the entrance to be seated. No-one notice me until Fadhil seated me. He seemed to be the head waiter but ended up serving me. The sea-food pizza came with the mussels in the shell and the prawns unshelled. Fadhil said that’s how they serve it. Once he brought my pizza, I never saw him again. I wanted tabasco sauce. Through another waiter (and there were not many around), I finally got the bill. Fadhil was dour and did not make me feel welcome. He should not be in the service industry.
Second time – with a colleague
Again waited at the front to be seated, for around 5 minutes until a white guy came and helped us. He then handed us over to Lebo. Our order took a very long time to arrive. It was brought without cutlery by Fadhil. Lebo spent most of her time at the counter with your baked goods serving customers there. So we could not ask for sauce. When we were done, we asked three waiters including Fadhil to bring the bill. We could not find Lebo. After waiting for 10 minutes, we walked to the front and told the bar man to help get the bill. It took another 4 minutes.

It was cooked and seasoned to perfection, and the veggies were a little bit too soft for me, but nothing I couldn't handle. For my drink, I ordered a virgin Mojito, tasted very good, but next time I really do not want to see bruised mint in my drink, yeah, not aesthetically pleasing. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and give it a good 8.
