When planning and researching for my visit to Gaborone, Table50Two was always up there as a top restaurant. I have to say I was very disappointed with my experience. Firstly, when I arrived they didn't seem to have my booking. This despite the Room50Two hotel front of house manager/ receptionist phoning the restaurant the day before to book on my behalf. Anyway, they did have a table available for me. The next issue was that after ordering the ribeye steak the sever came back to say they had run out. As an alternative I ordered what was supposed to be the harissa spiced lamb chops but again I was told they were out of harissa spice so it was seasoned only with chilli..... When the lamb came it was lukewarm and chewy but it tasted OK. However, it came served with mixed vegetables which were mostly uncooked. I get al-dente but these were hard and cold - just horrible. I sent them back and what they returned with wasn't much better. I think it is a basic that a chef should be able to boil some broccoli, carrots and cauliflower! Service was fine but I had to ask for a napkin - again I think this is basics that the table should be set. Ambience was OK I guess. The only attraction with this restaurant is the view but on the evening I was there it was chilly out so didn't want to sit outside. Wouldn't return...
Read moreThe view from up there is just amazing, it's perfect for romantic dinners or just sundowners to catch the sunset, absolutely beautiful. I went there for dinner last week on a Wednesday, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The music was not loud, perfect to hold conversations.
The only thing I wasn't happy about is that the food took forever to arrive and when it did, it was cold and we requested for it to be warmed up. The menu options also is quite limited, I couldn't get my ribeye steak as I had wished and settled for prawns. If you are a steak lover maybe call to confirm 1st what is available on the day. Also important to note that with a rise in the Foot and Mouth disease cases there is a high chance of not finding steak.
Other than that the cocktail was great. It got really cold in the night so advisable to carry a cardigan or something warm for comfort of you are going to opt for outside sitting area especially with this...
Read moreBe prepared to spend 2.5 hours or more for dinner as the wait for the food can be extremely long. That was my experience. I was also served a raw tomahawk steak (I ordered "medium rare" but aside from 1mm of searing on the outside, it was completely raw). I sent it back and though they cooked it more thoroughly and though the manager came out to apologize, it led to a weird interaction. After stating she was sorry the steak was not cooked to my liking, I attempted to put her at ease by commenting that perhaps it was just a cultural difference and maybe "medium rare" in America isn't as rare as "medium rare" in Botswana. But she just stared at me as if she hadn't been expecting an actual response and then repeated, robotically, that she was "sorry the steak was not cooked to my liking". A little bizarre. But other than the service, the view is fantastic and once you actually get your food and it's cooked to your liking it's...
