This hotel would normally rate a 3 in my opinion, but the service and care by the staff makes it a 4. ||Pros:||Staff - superb. Every request was well attended - even details. We wanted something off menu and it was brought to us with no problem, I requested to take back to my room some food and the waiter kindly wrapped up utensils and even parm cheese to go with the pasta. When we went to the pool, the lifeguard brought towels for my kids without me asking. The list goes on and on.||Pool - nice and big (we went in winter and had the pool all to our selves since the Brazilian winter feels like New England summer!). The lifeguard was there in the afternoons to evenings (as far as I can tell) and when they had special events. When he wasn't, the other staff got us towels with no problem.||Food - breakfast (we were there 5 days) had some stock items that were there every day (traditional Brazilian fare) and had some items that varied from day to day. We had lunch there once and dinner once - always a good meal. I like it that they serve their juices without sugar added and they had a wide variety (I have a fairly restrictive diet with regards to fruits but they had juices or vitaminas for the one or two fruits I can have - awesome! - one day when they ran out, the waiter brought it especially for me).||Sconces / chandeliers - very nice high ceilings with interesting chandeliers in the hallways||||Cons:||Wifi - like other reviewers - works, but is SLOW. Don't expect broadband here. It's hit or miss. We were able to watch a movie one day but not the next day||Maintenance: there were a lot of little details that needed attention (my kids' shower caddy didn't have a shelf so couldn't put stuff on it, there was an outlet that didn't have a cover, etc.)||Outlets: this hotel is 70 years old and the availability of outlets confirm that.||Don't expect good tv here - not a lot of channels available.||Furniture - very dated - 70's / 80's furniture both in the lobby and game area. The room had antique-like furniture, except the 80's style office chairs were out of place. ||Fitness Center: a total of three machines and weights - nothing to...

Read moreStayed again at B.V.Hotel-V.R. last week for 1-night (July ’12). Still best place in town..but it’s like saying you worn your least dirty shirt. Room 122 was best room I've had in my 6 stays since 2009. Inspired me to review again with better score – up to 3… New photos added. . The B. V. simply has no good competition in this industrial “steel city”.||Do Not Stay in the "Newer" (1980s?) back wing of this place; I call the dungeon.||Room 122 is end of 2nd wing of original 1940s era bldg. Sheets & pillows cases were FRESH! (Yeaa!) Mattress needs replacing, but worked. Top blanket sketchy. Nice they “cracked open” closet doors to minimize musty smells. Wifi worked well; fast enough friend Skyped his family couple times. My minibar frig faulty when I arrived. Good staff changed quick for different one. Towels are thin & meager. Shower acceptably clean. (If good for me probably good for you). Bidet basin sketchy. Hairdryer inadequate, but take what can… Room 122 beats camping by a good margin! Rooms 101110/111(?) have better views out windows (a’la “Bella Vistas”). Some signs of investment in lobby area. Repeat previous review: This place could be absolute GEM(!) if simply resurfaced & relit the sleeping rooms & hallways…but vision seems lacking. Breakfast/restaurant, bar, patio areas all remain very nice, quaint, nostalgic, etc.. Staff & food quality a big bonus. Breakfasts on patio with cool morning are really enjoyable! Super convenient to CSN steel works. (CSN Foundation owns hotel – I think.) Friend stayed in 121 – he said...
