Upset with the service and the attitude of the staff. In general, very disorganized.
But the worst was serving foreigners differently from the locals. Upon our arrival they immediately served us with expensive imported San Pelegrino water, without asking. Minutes later they served local mineral water which is half the price to the Brazilian guests at the table next to us. Yes, we are foreigners, but we don’t like to be taken advantage of in such a manner. Extremely surprised to see such attitude in Rio.
The English menu was substantially different from the Portuguese. No explanation given which was the right one of the two, they told us to “just ask if we had questions”.
Ordered a glass of wine from the menu - they served a different one which - surprise - was more expensive.
Food was ok, nothing special for this price. A check for 2 persons of 500 Reais with just two dishes, one glass of wine and a coffee is just silly.
The place is tiny and the ground floor has a very off putting and clumsy layout.

Read moreI had high expectations for ESCAMA, given its Michelin star, but unfortunately, my experience was far from stellar. The food was extremely disappointing—over-salted and tough to chew. We ordered the lamb rice and steak with fries, and both dishes were not only excessively salty but also so hard to chew that they were practically inedible.
The ceviche, which was the only thing we could eat, didn’t come with chips as expected. When we requested chips, they brought us soggy and stale dried banana chips. Upon asking for fresh ones, we were told they had no more.
To make matters worse, the food took an unreasonably long time to arrive, and the prices were exorbitant for what we received. We paid $85 and left hungry, having only managed to eat the ceviche.
A Michelin sign should guarantee a certain level of quality and care, but ESCAMA fell far short. Sadly, I cannot recommend this restaurant based on...
Read moreI recently dined at Escama in Rio de Janeiro, and it was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. Despite the restaurant being completely empty, it took an absurdly long time for our food to arrive. With no other customers to serve, there was no reason for the delay.
When the food finally arrived, it was a total disappointment. The filet mignon was tough and nearly impossible to chew, and the lamb rice was so salty it was inedible. We barely ate any of it.
To top it off, the prices were outrageously high for such poor quality. We ended up paying $85 USD for food we couldn’t even enjoy.
Overall, it was a complete waste of time and money. I wouldn’t recommend Escama to anyone—there are far better dining options in Rio that are actually...
