Medium-average food, no service, disgusting wine. We were very negatively surprised by our experience tonight in this restaurant, that we chose after reading many positive critics here. Why were we disappointed? At the entrance, very cold welcome. I asked if we could be added to the waiting list, but the person was very not welcoming. Telling me just wait (and making me understanding move away without taking my name or exchanging basic welcoming words we could expect in any restaurant). Very rough, speedy and impersonal service: I asked what were the wines served by glass. The waiter just brought me a bottle of a blend (no specific grape variety) of a red of Italian wine. I tried to ask about the region but I was ignored. I decided to take one glass to try. It was very disgusting. Very closed nose and mouth, chaptalised with a taste of grape must concentrate. Definitely a low end industrial wine. About the service too, we had to ask serveral time to get our bottles of water. To summarize, the different waiters did not take time to give a word. They only take plate from the kitchen and put in on the table. Not an advice, not an explanation, not any attention. For example, they saw I didn't drink the glass of wine they served me, nobody asked me if I liked the wine. If I would like to try something else.. again, the basics, the basics... Medium Average food. Ravioli dolce vita: good dough but the spinach didn't have any taste. Pizza calzone: again very good dough but disappointed by the ingredients. Mushroom didnt taste anything, the cheese also. They served the calzone already cut which is very disappointing too because we can't see the "soufflé" and the pizza inflated, which is the interest of the calzone. However the dough is good and this gives a good potential, if they choose better ingredients specially concerning...
Read moreLovely place with a great atmosphere (as a fan of Federico Fellini, it's a delight to see a restaurant named after one of my favorite movies!) Great food and staff. We are avid Italian restaurant diners, and this place did not disappoint at all! Wonderful staff, a special thank you to the acting manager Layo who graciously attended to us on both of our two visits during the trip to Paraty. Overall fantastic experience with Starters, main courses, and desserts to die for.
One observation, however... While this didn't bother us as customers or anything, we noticed that on our second visit, there was a man who was acting as a "manager" alongside Layo. The keyword here is "acting".... He came across as very rude to the people trying to get in, and extremely rude to his staff... It was sad to see this wonderful staff be treated this way for what seemed to be for nothing. It definitely strained the mood for a bit. We did not see this man during our first visit the night before, so we don't know who exactly he is and what purpose he fills, but that's our observation! aside from that, everything was splendid. To the rest of the staff of La Dolce Vita: Keep up...
Read moreAs an italian myself, we had an incredible dining experience at this Italian restaurant, largely thanks to our waiter, Bruno. From the moment we sat down, Bruno was eager to share his extensive knowledge of the menu. He recommended the carbonara pasta and Magnifica pizza, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. Each dish was a burst of authentic Italian flavor, and it was clear that Bruno's recommendations were tailored to our taste. It's not every day you come across a waiter who truly understands the essence of the cuisine they're serving. Bruno's passion for food and his commitment to ensuring guests have a memorable dining experience really set our evening apart also thanks to his multilingual capabilities. A big thank you to Bruno for making our visit so special. We can't wait to come back and try more of his...
