We were in Bulgaria for a month, and this was among the top three restaurants we visited the entire time, so good that we returned a second time. We got a table at the scenic side of the patio, with glorious views of this town that hugs the mountains of the valley. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we were served -- we got beer and wine, a Greek salad, and a delicious calzone with chicken, prosciutto, vegetables, and cheese. For dessert, we ordered honey cake with sesame and walnuts and Death by Chocolate, served warm with a liquid center. The food was perfectly prepared in every way. The views of the city, the bend in the river, two graceful bridges, and the surrounding forested hills and mountains were spectacular. The next day we returned for lunch, and since there were no table on the back balcony, we sat on the covered area by the street and enjoyed watching people go by. We had beer and wine again, then ordered a Bulgarian salad, a yummy mixture of cheese and yogurt with walnuts, tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers. We accompanied that with warm pita bread with rock salt. We tried two different desserts this time, and both were amazing: an Old Village Style French cake with homemade custard and jam, and Biscuit Cake, with crumbs rolled into cream and chocolate. WOW. Service both times was excellent and the prices were more than fair. I recommend Shtastliveca highly!

It was a wonderful night and everything is so tasty 😋 We order only vegetarian dishes it was way better than we expected! The service can be a bit slow, but it's common in a popular restaurant like this on weekend night in Bulgaria😂 Highly recommend the yogurt salad. If you're already bored with shopska salad, this is the best alternative option. Do remember to try their biscuit cake, perfect ending for the meal. It was the third time we booked this restaurant but first time eating here. The first time was at their Sofia branch in the mall. We tried to enter without reservation but got rejected. We then reserved a seat online but eventually cancelled it due to our tight schedules. When we travelled to Veliko Tărnovo the Airbnb host recommended this restaurant to us, saying it's "the best one in town". After I successfully reserved seats using google they cancelled my reservation, replying that they're full. I couldn't find their google reservation option anymore so I went to their website. It was then I realized they're same restaurant. Eventually I reserved through their official website and got two seats on the patio facing beautiful view of old town and the full moon🌝

One of the best restaurants I tried in Bulgaria! Delicious meals: everything on the menu is excellent! We had an incredibly tasty salad with roasted pumpkin and goat cheese, an amazing pumpkin soup, a fantastic pork-based dish with parsnip purée and pumpkin, and an even better dessert of pumpkin dumplings and pumpkin ice cream (yes, I like pumpkin!). The service was good and the timings between dishes were just right. We also had a half-litre caraffe of house red wine which was delicious too. If I had stayed longer in Veliko Tarnovo, I would have eaten there again and tried more dishes from the menu, which has a great selection of both international and traditional dishes, very skillfully cooked. I was also very pleased that there wasn't resistance when we asked for a caraffe of tap water, which is perfectly good to drink. I recommend reserving a table in advance as if gets pretty busy, and no wonder, since the quality is so high at reasonable prices. Do not miss this restaurant, it is absolutely worth it!

This the best eatery in Veliko Tarnovo! First off I gotta address the decor: you have to come here if only for how gorgeously decorated the inside is. Don't be fooled by their street facing entrance. If you go in at the back they have 2 terraces with the best view in town. It's a superb view! We are here twice and the food was quite simply delicious. I absolutely loved their sgephard salad - it was so fresh! They make their vown home made sausage which they serve with the salad and the ajvar which were both yummy breakfast dishes. We had the duck with lemon risotto, the pork with mushroom risotto and the crispy pork ears. All of them were good, the pork ears a bit too crispy. We had the cherry cheesecake in phylllo desert and it was light and a good way to end the meal. They, quite oddly don't have any cocktail or wine options. Their drinks menu is very limited and liquor wise they mostly just have rakia and a lot of beers. The service was kinds rushed and inattentive. All in all lovely place.

Review for middle of July 2023, a Sunday afternoon/early evening. Welcoming staff weren't that friendly, said there are no tables for 3 persons available inside and we were seated on the terrace towards the street. 5min later, while going to the bathroom I saw the inside of restaurant was max 30% of tables were occupied and not many of them had "reserved" notice. Service was fast, food wise portion size was medium, taste like did not impress me at all. Would not re-order same dishes a second time, but this does not mean it was bad. Lava cake tasted like no other, missing texture and taste far off. It's chef's interpretation. Atmosphere and views are magnificent. Payment accepted by card also contactless or tap to pay. Parking spaces not available in the vicinity. Restaurant gets quite crowded. Suggestion: do redo your menus to include photos.

Shtastlivetsa is one of my favorite chain restaurants in Bulgaria. However, this time the food was not all great. The interior was as usual lovely and feeling like old days or as if you are participating in a movie from the XIX century. The service was prompt and very professional- I would say the waiters go through a very thorough training. The lunch menu was all delicious, except for the soup which, even though puréed, was full of small leftovers of tomato and pepper skin. The super expensive duck with risotto was hard to chew and quite salty. The spinach balls were deeply fried and well battered in flour. I learned from the waiter that basically all the dishes we ordered contained some amounts of garlic which was impossible to remove. The restaurant is huge and well visited by tourists. Clean bathroom.
