From the moment we arrived, the family‑run charm of Hotel Gurko in Veliko Tarnovo was obvious. The owners and the staff are warm, generous, and truly put guests first and made us feel like part of their family.
We stayed in Room 21, and it was simply spectacular. The private balcony frames unforgettable views of the Asen Dynasty Monument across the Yantra River, the rolling mountains, and the magical skyline of the old city. That panoramic vista is one of the most stunning we have experienced in Veliko Tarnovo. The outdoor seating area is equally lovely, cozy and relaxed, perfect for sipping coffee at sunrise or winding down with a glass of wine as the sun dips below the hills.
Breakfast was a true standout! homemade banitsa, a generous assortment of cheese and cold cuts, fresh fruit and yogurt, pastries, toast, coffee and juice, all served with care. It felt traditional and abundant.
Beyond the meals, the owners and staff were exceptionally helpful, offering tips on local highlights, helping arrange parking, and speaking excellent English. They make every part of our stay seamless every time we visit Bulgaria.
Overall, our experience at Hotel Gurko was unforgettable. The combination of fireplaces, vintage wooden interiors, peaceful location, and panoramic views made it magical. Breakfast was delicious, the amenities like free parking and Wi‑Fi reliable, and the setting felt authentically Bulgarian....

Read moreGreat hotel to stay at. Was close to everything and a fantastic view of the valley. Also had parking (we emailed ahead to reserve a spot). They had parking for 4 under the hotel, and a few more could park on the street in front. The hotel is located on a cobblestone narrow street. We were able to navigate it with our larger vehicle, but it was tight. If you have a smaller car, it should not be a problem. Parking was free. We had upgraded to the Junior Suite for a little more money, and I think it was worth it. The breakfast had a little of something for everyone, and ended up being more of a brunch as there was so much food. We also at dinner at the hotel (was not included like breakfast was) and everything we ate was delicious, and the view was incredible. The kitchen closed at 10pm, and the restaurant was open until 11 pm. People enjoyed strolling along the cobblestone street in front of us well into the evening. The area was well lit, and appeared safe. The rooms were clean, and beds were comfortable. There was complimentary coffee and tea in the room. Some staff spoke English.
Overall would definitely stay here again, and...
