The Black Casket CafĂ© was quite the experience—creative, atmospheric, and absolutely worth going out of the way to find. From the moment you walk in, you can tell this isn’t a typical coffee shop. The decor is striking and deliberate, with a dark, artistic aesthetic that’s both moody and inviting. Every detail—from the artwork to the lighting—feels intentional, giving the place a personality that’s hard to forget. The coffee was top-tier—smooth, rich, and clearly made with care. You can tell they take pride in what they serve, and it shows in the balance of flavor and presentation. Every cup feels handcrafted, not rushed. The baked items complemented the drinks perfectly and matched the café’s overall aesthetic. Each treat had a clever, theme-appropriate name that added a fun touch to the experience. It’s the kind of extra detail that makes you smile before you even take a bite—and the best part is, they tasted just as good as they looked. Service was friendly and genuine. The staff seemed relaxed but attentive, clearly passionate about what they’ve built. The energy of the place feels personal, like you’re stepping into someone’s creative vision brought fully to life. If I had to mention one small thing that stood out, it would be the large sectional upstairs. It doesn’t quite blend with the rest of the decor visually, but I can see why it’s there. It adds comfort and makes the space feel communal—and judging by how many people were gathered there enjoying themselves, it’s clearly serving its purpose well. Overall, Black Casket CafĂ© is a gem—original, immersive, and full of charm. Between the atmosphere, the playful baked goods, and the exceptional coffee, it’s a place that leaves a lasting impression.

I heard good things about this place, and it sounded interesting so I thought I’d check it out. I looked at their website beforehand and read some reviews so I knew about the limited hours. I arrived about 30 minutes after they opened and the place was packed. I didn’t take too much time to look at the menu as there were a lot of people behind me so I just ordered a ham sandwich and a cookie, without checking the prices. I was pretty shocked when the total was $24! For one sandwich and 1 cookie that I had to take away to eat in my car! I mean I guess I should have looked at the prices, but I never expected it to be more than $20, and then it also asked for a tip on top of that. I will say that both items were really delicious and the sandwich was pretty big. If you have a small appetite you could probably share the sandwich or take half home. I didn’t have either of those options. When I was finished eating I did some more Googling and discovered the sandwich was $16 and the cookie was $7. Okay, the sandwich was big and with generous/fresh ingredients so it’s worth $16, but there’s no way anyone should be allowed to charge $7 for a single cookie unless it’s huge, or stuffed, or has something else to make it worth more. The service was just okay. They seemed to be just wanting to get you in and out. I didn’t get a chance to really look around as the place is tiny and it was full. Overall I would definitely get the sandwich again if I’m in the area, but it’s not a place I would drive across town for when there are other good options out there too.

The Black Casket is a great hangout place for anyone who admires Gothic aesthetics. I had the opportunity to have lunch there near the end of October. The establishment was so unique for how it is decorated with Halloween decorations and antiquated-looking gothic ornaments. There is also a lounge area upstairs where you can feel more comfortable while you socialize and eat. I had their 'build your own sandwich', which consisted of salami, Dijon mustard, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce and onions on a pretzel submarine bun. The sandwich was good; the salami was really good being given a generous portion of it, the vegetables were fresh and the bun, not so fresh, but was still good. Their coffee was pretty decent. The staff was very kind and welcoming. They even gave me a free cookie for my patronage when I asked for one of their baked goods. I recommend the Black Casket Cafe for anyone who loves stylish hangout businesses that serves specialized beverages.

So, this morning I was passing through Abbotsford and decided to swing by the Black Casket as I was curious about the place. Being thanksgiving they were on reduced hours, and were not open when I arrived. The door was open however, so I popped my head in just to take a peek and say hello. The person who greeted me was friendly and let me come in. I mentioned that I was passing through, and couldn’t wait the 45 minutes until they opened. She said no problem, what would you like? Some of the regular menu items weren’t ready yet, so I chose to build my own sandwich, and also chose a couple pasty items out of the display. OMG! The sandwich was probably the best I have ever had. Fresh artisan bread, generous amounts of all the fillings and really fresh and flavourful. The pastries were absolutely to die for! Crisp flaky pastry and delicious fillings. The raspberry pie, (in the shape of a coffin) was almost sinful! I will definitely be going back (when they are open) to have the whole Black Casket experience. Highly...
