Indoor dining covid restrictions were lifted in British Columbia and like most people it was nice to dine in. I haven't had fish 'n chips for at least 1.5 years before the covid so I was looking forward to it. I ordered the scallop combo. I forgot to take photos, the photo I have is what I had took home. 4 battered scallops, 2 battered prawns, and 2 battered cod fillets.
It was a lot of food and took half of it home. Good price, the fries were really good the the battered fish, prawns and scallops were just ok. Not bad, but not great. I personally prefer a lighter batter and would recommend the Bow & Stern for fish n chips over anything in Abbotsford at this point. I will say you can't beat the prices at Jo-Jo's. I will definitely come back and look forward to reviewing other dishes but I'm not sure I would have to fish n chips again. I will say that I usually order up and get the Halibut which I didn't do this time having the cod, so that may have affected my opinion a little but it's more about the batter for me.
Service: It's obviously a popular place as it was a Monday at dinner time, every table was taken and there were many pick up orders taking place. I believe I counted 8-10 tables due to covid rules and only 1 server on duty. She did apologize for being a little out of sink and not use to serving so many people at the same time after the covid lull. She did forget my drink refill but after reminding her she did bring me one. She was a little flustered and being critical of the service it pretty low on my rating of most of my restaurant visits. She was also bringing orders out to cars and ringing in the pick up orders so overall she was doing a good job. As most restaurants' it was overwhelmingly busy for an hour or 2 then slowing as time passed. As I said, I do look forward to a return visit for breakfast, lunch and dinner...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I ate here a couple weeks ago. The food was good, but the service was not. The waitress barely made eye contact with him when seating him, placing cutlery, bringing water etc. (My boyfriend had arrived before me). When I arrived, the waitress brought a glass of ice cold water to me. The water my bf received was not ice cold. This stuff was tolerable, but then I got up to use the washroom. It is a women's single bathroom. When I was washing my hands, I noticed the soap dispenser was completely empty. I walked out to tell the waitress (who seemed to be the only one on staff), and she said she would refill it but I could go over to the front of the restaurant and use hand sanitizer. I told her that I would rather wash my hands because of the sticky feeling hand sanitizer leaves you with. She said, "okay, did you want to just wash your hands in the men's washroom?" I hesitantly replied "uhhm.." because that was such an uncomfortable suggestion, I didn't know what to say. She said "it's a single washroom." I said "okay," and made my way over (feeling super awkward) to the men's bathroom. I walk in and immediately gag because of the horrible urine stench. I washed my hands as fast as I could while coughing. The urinal is less than a foot away from the sink. When I came back to our table, I told my bf and he said there was also diarrhea when he walked in earlier. About 5 minutes later I saw the waitress standing in the doorway of the women's washroom, clearly instructing another employee inside on how to refill the soap dispenser. So... why couldn't this have been done for me when I notified them? It was also very slow that day so there's no excuse in that area. Please train your employees with proper customer service skills. That was a disgusting experience (aside from the food.) I am very disappointed, and shocked that you would treat...
Read moreThe staff here has always been excellent, but the food quality has significantly deteriorated since before covid! I usually get breakfast from here, and their breakfast is always amazing, so I decided to try something different today, and get appies and a burger. (Except for 1 time, in which I didn't return for MONTHS, because the chef kept making excuses for her food not being cooked the way I asked, and argued with me over the phone about it!) I've come back after the last few months, because of that experience. Here's what I ordered, and my honest opinion on them:
Garlic (cheese bread): came with a ranch sauce??? 1st of all, if something is advertised as "garlic cheese bread," I'd expect it to have cheese and taste like garlic!!! These were 2 pieces of Texas toast, sprinkled (literally) with a dash of shredded marble cheese!
Cheese sticks: 6 mozzarella cheese sticks, served on a LARGE plate with ranch sauce. (Weird!) These were NOT stringy at all, and it seemed as if they were taken out of the freezer and microwaved! (Just extremely poor quality)
The mushroom and Swiss burger: Can I get some mushrooms on my burger, please? Again, if a "Bacon Mushroom Swiss Burger" is advertised, I'd expect there to be more than just a few sprinkles of mushrooms!!! The Swiss cheese was NOT melted, and looked like an "Al cheapo" slice of Swiss! (Every mushroom Swiss burger I've ever had, has had the Swiss melted, and a good tablespoon or 2 of mushrooms)Just extremely low budget! This was unlike any I've ever had! The Caesar salad I got with my burger, was amazing, except for the brown lettuce. Not to mention their online menu is outdated, so everything is a few bucks more than you expect it to be before...
