This is going to be a long review as the experience here made up for a terrible day. My wife and I were in Airdrie to pick up a teardrop trailer after purchasing it a couple months ago however upon arrival after a long drive from BC we uncovered that nothing we had ordered was done. We were also going to see some old friends for dinner but that didn't work out due to the delay in sorting everything out.
We had rezzies at Sorso at the last minute and had to call to cancel and after my explanation the host both thanked me for calling to cancel and encouraged me to come in anyways after our ordeal for a drink.
We wound up being at the RV place for three hours in the heat and wound up leaving the trailer there overnight. We then went to our hotel to freshen up and after a quick chat decided to go to Sorso (although we did consider Mr. Mike's!).
Glad we went. Although being both busy and short staffed we were fortuitous to grab a table inside right away. After months of not being able to socialize with people one on one we got it in spades. The ambiance which included live music and amazing decor immediately hit us. And the menu was so well designed that we had to order a number of dishes.
The dishes we ordered were all delicious and included the carbonara pasta, Korean BBQ tacos, steak bites, devilled eggs, and duck wings. Each dish well portioned being both not too large and just enough to satisfy without filling you up. On the beverage side it was equally if not more impressive. I had the smoked fashioned which was completely a new experience for me with bourbon. The wife was adventurous and tried a number of different cocktails.
Finally, the nail in the coffin that made this whole day salvaged was we got to see one our friends in the end and we wound up chatting with the owner who had to serve that night due to him being short staffed. In speaking with him we got to chat about a number of things with us both being in the hospitality to industry, him winning mixology awards for unique drinks, the Yukon, Airdrie, the history of how he and his business partner created the restaurant, how are day went, travel, and many more. We got to exchange contact information so we will be back and hopefully he can come north. Either way we felt we found a new friend while seeing and old one. Thanks for a great memory while we travel across the country on our honeymoon and thanks Specifically to London for the celebratory cheers at the end of a wonderful 3 hour plus evening at your establishment and the unique...
Read moreMost people don't take the time to 'rate' a restaurant, unless they have a terrible time, so I feel it's important, especially in these times, to praise the good guys! We arrived later than we wanted, expecting it to be busy... and it was! Which was really nice to see on a random Thursday in March. Even with its busyness, we were able to grab a booth for the three of us - me, hubby and 4 yr old. Right away we were greeted and (*bless her sweet heart), by our server, Isabella - she offered us drinks, described the features, and put in our orders right away. Ordered an Old Fashioned, one of their feature drinks, their feature appetizer (Pretzel bites) - all of which they are known for - delicious drinks and food. Old Fashioneds are their specialty - and yes, my husband was very happy - and I, was very happy with my special cocktail, as well. Pretzel bites came with a substitute cheese sauce, which was equally as delicious as their Beer Sauce. By 7pm, the place was packed - again, we haven't been out, at all, but it was so nice to see a local spot be filled with patrons. The kiddo ordered the Kids Burger - and my word (*always have to taste test as a Mom) - it was delish - fries hot, and perfectly seasoned. We ordered the Open Faced Lox and the Roast Apple Flatbread (*and asked to substitute the Prosciutto for chicken). Also ordered a glass of Pinot Noir and 3 old fashioneds- two for a table of friends that had arrived. The 2nd round of drinks took time ---- they were made to order, with the best ingredients, made with intention - and they (the restaurant) were PACKED! Plus, we didn't care - we were out, enjoying the experience, 100%. Dinner arrived - they were both generous portions - Lox an entire plate on its own, served with a side salad, and the flatbread with a enough arugula to be a side dish as well - and it was perfect - plus, they were able to accommodate the substitution. And the kids dessert - haha, let's just say she was delighted :) It was a perfect night out - a long overdue night out for our family, and we were so happy we chose Sorso. **Side note, BUT had to be noted: Our server, was INCREDIBLE!!!! It was her 2nd night serving in a restaurant with her own section and we were blown away - she was pleasant, kind, polite, and attentive. Thank you Sorso (and Isabella) for a...
Read moreReally disappointing experience from start to finish. As soon as we arrived, our server was unfriendly and dismissive. I ordered the shrimp tacos, and when they came, the server dropped the plate on the table. The plate was a mess, dripping, soggy, and honestly looked dirty.
I took two bites and couldn’t eat any more. They were incredibly salty and tasted like straight soy sauce, completely inedible. Our server walked by us several times and never once checked in. After more than 15 minutes, I had to go up to the bar to ask someone for help.
When she finally returned, I politely told her I couldn’t eat the food and explained why. She took the plate to the kitchen, then came back and said, “There’s nothing wrong with them. That’s just how we make them,” and rolled her eyes when I declined a replacement. A few minutes later, I saw the cook hand her one of the tacos, and I overheard her loudly saying, “These are delicious. There’s nothing wrong with them,” clearly so I would hear. Completely unprofessional.
When the bill came, I was shocked to see I was being charged for the full meal, even though I only had two bites. When I said I wouldn’t pay for it, she told me the best she could do was 30% off because I “ate one taco.” Not true, I didn’t even finish one. I asked to speak with the manager, and he started off offering the same 30% off. I explained the situation again and pointed out that even if I had eaten a full taco, I still didn’t eat two-thirds of the meal. After some back and forth, he finally agreed to remove the tacos, but I still had to pay for the $4.75 pop.
To top it off, my friend’s pasta was also undercooked, but given the server’s attitude, she didn’t even feel comfortable saying anything.
The food was bad, the service was worse, and the overall attitude from the staff was unacceptable. The server in particular needs a serious attitude check. if this is how she treats customers, she shouldn’t be working in hospitality at all. Honestly the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. Would never return...
