What a cool place! In South Ajax of all places! We tried this place for brunch and it was fantastic! I've never had Korean Fried Chicken, but now I understand the hype, because it's delicious!
The restaurant is very close to the Ajax GO station and inside is a nice, quiet, maybe mid-size seating area, slightly dark though. The service staff was fast, very friendly and very helpful, guiding us to get the dishes best suited to us. We ordered the Rose Tteokbokki, 10 pieces fried chicken dumplings, and Yangnyeom Chicken . The wait-time was a little long, but definitely worth it!
Before reviewing each dish I must say the portion sizes were HUGE! We were expecting small portions like most restaurants but they really filled the plates well and left us very satisfied.
The 10 pieces of fried chicken dumplings were very tasty, equally crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. This dish would be a great starter/appetizer, and the sauce is good, though does leave you craving something a little more.
Next we have the Yangnyeom Chicken, which was also 10 pieces. Now the lady who served us said it's most people's usual starting dish and is chicken with bone, but I believe 8 out of the 10 pieces were boneless and they were gigantic! The chicken was so crunchy and coated so well in the delicious sauce that we couldn't help but devour it! Each bite left us wanting more and though it was the main dish, we finished it very quickly. Quite possibly the best fried chicken I've ever had.
Lastly, we ordered the Rose Tteokbokki, a soft pasta with chicken if I recall correctly and the pasta as rice cakes, which was surprisingly delicious! The bowl was packed with all the creamy goodness of their rose sauce, as well as the rice cakes and veggies.
Overall, amazing experience and if you're looking for a new place to try, this is it! You will not be...
Read moreEdit: I've been coming here regularly for over a year, and the quality has gone steeply downhill in the last couple of months. For our most recent visit(today), I was left extremely disappointed by the decline in quality of service and of food. Let me elaborate. We were eating in, and when we chose to just have water, we got a small glass of water each and no bottle to refill our water from (they gave us one on the previous visits), so after eating spicy chicken we were parched. Additionally, the servers haven't checked in with us other than to put ordered food at our table. As for the food, it was even worse - the Korean noodles my sister loves to order have become completely unrecognizable. At first, you'd get a tasty spicy broth, tasty noodles, different seafood, fish cakes, egg and cheese. Now, we've got watery broth that's not even spicy anymore, plain tasting noodles, NO seafood at all, and no cheese too! Even the fish cakes are sliced thinly... The dish tastes nothing like it did originally, watery and not good at all. Also I often get spring rolls, and this time they were very dry, a huge disappointment. At least the chicken still tasted good, but from several months back the restaurant stopped providing complimentary pickled radish to the chicken and now it's priced for 2 additional dollars, so that was another letdown. In conclusion, the more I come here the worse it gets so not sure I'll continue coming here anymore. A huge disappointment and I can't recommend anything here other than fried chicken (maybe as a takeout, because the service wasn't very...
Read moreBan Ban chicken was recommended to me roughly a year ago by my chiropractor, after I had recently moved to Ajax. I will say I'm not really a big chicken lover and very rarely eat fried chicken. I would never have known about it, if it wasn't for my chiropractor. They make the best chicken and fried chicken I've ever bought. Always made fresh when ordered and Sooo nice and crispy. The chicken is moist and juicy on the inside. They don't have many flavours to choose from but the ones they do have are great. I like Yangnyeom and honey garlic and the chilli the best. I also love their fries, chicken wings, and spring rolls. They have a delicious chibap bowl with purple rice that I absolutely love. I've never dined in, I've always done takeout and delivery. Atmosphere is great nice and cozy. The staff is always friendly and give great customer service. Parking is free there is a mosque across from the restaurant so sometimes it's difficult to find parking right in front however there is always parking in the parking lot even if not out front. If you're looking for a great fried chicken joint with fresh tasty food then I highly recommend ban ban chicken. My mom lives in Scarborough and is always asking me to pickup some chicken in my way down to visit! Highly...
