Halibut House Fish & Chips Ajax — Restaurant in Ajax

Extremly discriminatory.... I try to support my local restaurants in these hard times but this is one I will not support from now on... ever.. very rude and lacking in critical thinking skills....people sitting in the restaurant without masks throughout the store.... I'm standing and ordering my food... placed the order... waited for the food to be prepared. After about 8 minutes I'm told I need to wear a mask or stand outside....I told them I don't have to wear one and look around... nobody is... they got very angry... and tried to rush me out of the store...I wasn't rude... didn't raise my voice or anything... all I said was if you think I'm actually breaking the law then you should call the police but I'm going to wait for my food... at which point she packaged my food hastily, was extremely rude and mean to her cashier, as if any of this is her fault.... that's when I said.. you know what..I will not now or ever again support your restaurant and I'm now requesting a refund.... she got even angrier and wanted to keep my 10 % tip.... I said no...I want all my money back... she was mad about that too and was surprised I wanted my tip back aswell... she then tried again to rip me off for 2 dollars.... I then left and spent my money elsewhere...

These mandates and policy's are not laws... they can give tickets all they like but people they will not hold up in court.... I have friends and family that have died for the freedoms the masses are letting go!.. most of us where born into these freedoms and don't understand where all this goes.... the Canadian charter of rights and freedoms is still a thing along with all the other charters and laws that protect people from this type of discrimination... people..... time to wake up... it doesn't end...

After finishing up chemo & finally getting my tastebuds back I had a craving for fish & chips, (actually had this craving throughout my treatments) & today was able to satisfy it by visiting this restaurant. I hadn't been here before so I didn't know anything about it & I'm happy that I went there.

My family tried the seafood platter, halibut & haddock, (all with fries). The fish were freshly done in a lovely, crisp, tasty & overall very yummy batter. I was wondering about the chips when my husband pointed out the bags of potatoes waiting to be made into fresh fries. All of the fish & seafood were just as lovely as the batter & were also flavourful and flaky. My favourite was the haddock, it had a nice creaminess to it that I really enjoyed. Portions of the fish & fries were generous & although I was unable to finish all of the fries, they do reheat quite nicely, (not many fries are nice after rewarming) & I had the rest later. This place has regular daily specials & also has breakfast specials, (pankcakes, french toast, omelettes & other similar breakfast food) which I will have to try on my next visit. Not impressed, whatsoever. I went in to pick up two orders of fish and one order of chips for take out. The young lady behind the counter asked me what I wanted to order, I wasn't sure. Without taking all night to try and read the massive menu board (which is not appealing to the customer's eye) I just ordered what I knew - two pieces of Halibut and one order of chips. Coleslaw usually comes with a meal. This didn't. I paid an extra two dollars for dry coleslaw with no flavour.

While I sat and waited for my order, a lady came in behind me, the same girl behind the counter asked her what she wanted to order, and then proceeded to tell her about their special of COD/HADDOCK and chips for $6.00.

I heard this, and asked the girl if I could change my order - that had I known about the SPECIAL, I would have ordered it. The girl looked at me and said "It's already cooking, it's too late."

$14.00 is considerably less than the $27.00 I paid for my order. To top it all off, the chips were soggy and undercooked. Had to cook them in my oven.
