I would give zero stars if I could. The owner tried to shame and bully me. A while back I bought a meal and paid for extra bread, that's around 1.25 per bread, upon arriving home found the bread completely inedible and burnt. I decided to get in contact with them about the bread then and there, so I wrote a facebook post to them and attached a video of the bread asking for them to get in contact with me and correct the issue. More than a year later I walk in and the owner is there and he proceeds to tell the employee "Make sure the bread for this lady's order is good"... " because"... he went on something about how I wrote about it on the internet..etc. I told him he never got in touch with me to correct the issue and he said "why should I?" - FIRST OF ALL upon walking in nobody should have to tell anyone to make sure my bread is good, the bread should be good, that's an expectation for my order or anyone's order!!! Secondly he never corrected the original problem nor address it... he just proceeded to shame and bully me about it nor even addressed it, no refund, no free bread, no nothing, definitely says a lot about his character and this establishment, thanksfully there is another Afghan place opening up the street, happy to support them instead as I won't be bothered with Maimana anymore, and will definitely tell all my friends about it.
This situation is very unfortunate, perhaps the owner thinks I'm trying to shame him by reaching out on fb about the burnt bread but that was not my intention at all, if that was my intention I would have wrote a review instead which I did not, until now, because I feel they have crossed the line with me. Reach out, resolve the problem and the post could have been taken down, which is what I told him, even with regard to reviews, customers have a right to voice their experiences, it's really unfair if they get bullied by the owners for constructive criticism, what is the point of reviews then? ...
Read moreI don't leave many reviews anymore but this is a place I DO NOT recommend going to for Afghan food. There are so many better places in Durham.
The food was mediocre at best especially with their high prices and small portions. In the attached photo, this cost $17 and had a tiny salad with it as well. It was NOT worth it.
Besides the food, the service is some of the worst I have ever experienced for take-out.
First of all, they missed one whole order, the mantu, from our take out, which was not found until we got home. When we gave them a call to let them know, it was like they were calling us a liar, and we even suggested to send them a photo that it was missing. There wasn't even an apology for missing an item in our order and no suggestions were even made to remedy the solution. We were the one to ask if there is anything we can get for the inconvenience. They suggested to upgrade the mantu from a small to a large and we settled on that to pick up the order.
Its funny because a different family member of mine had a similar experience where there were missing items in their take out as well.
So we went to pick up the missing food and they basically pretended that they didn't remember the conversation that was had about 10 minutes before. Still no apology and we were tired of the inconvenience, deciding to take our order and leave. Its really unfortunate how much they don't really care about...
Read moreThis has been one of my go to places for lunch. On my recent visit, I noticed that they have started taking many take out orders but have not added enough cooks to prepare the meals. As a result, I had a wait close to 30 min just to get a chicken wrap. What made matters worse was after 20 minutes the attendant asked if I had ordered and what my order was. After telling the attendant again, the started to make it. No apology no nothing. While I understand everyone likes to make money on extra revenue which is a sign that you have a good restaurant. Part of being well liked by customers is increasing your service levels to compensate for the increase demand. Another point is that many of the tables were not cleared and dirty as well which is another sign that they are lacking staff. I do find it ironic that when you pay for the order by credit card, they ask you if you would like to tip. Slow service, dirty tables, no apology from the staff is NOT the recipe for receiving tips or keeping customers happy. I will probably come back and hopefully the owner would read this post and take steps to address...
