The South Lake Grill — Restaurant in Ajax

Every business needs to make profits to be successful, business 101. However, the owner of South Lake grill takes that and is incredibly dishonest. Certain prices are listed, then he realizes he either didn't like them, or posted them in error and doesn't give you the full meal as requested and writes things on your receipt like "that was extra". Example, Waffle with icing sugar was $14.99. Waffle with Nutella and Strawberries, $14.99. My request? Add Nutella to the basic Waffle. His response? Sends a Waffle with no Nutella because it's an extra charge. So, should I have ordered the Waffle with strawberries and Nutella for the same amount and said no strawberries? The guy is a tool who even if the prices were posted wrong, couldn't honor what they were and edit them later like he has now done. His staff are incredible. Him? Not so much.

Update: Placed a skip order days after this review; the owner called me personally to complain about my review. I said if he wanted it taken down he would have to change my opinion respectfully and tried explaining why I left it in the first place. He was screaming, yelling and wouldn't let me get more than 3 words out of my mouth before cutting me off screaming I'm hurting his business. He continued telling me off and canceled my skip order. Professionalism...

Went for lunch after a hospital visit because it was close and seemed well recommended. The menu was quite extensive (more about this later) with a wide variety of breakfast-lunch-dinner items suitable for all ages of patrons.

We started simple, just trying a BLT and a beef wrap with coffee. Maybe because it was a Saturday or maybe they (like many) are short staffed, but that simple order took a very long time arriving compared to other similar establishments that we have visited.

We the food did arrive, there was nothing particularly notable about it. It was the appropriate amount and it was presented fine, but there was no excitement about the taste. My wrap lacked the Southwest sauce promised in the menu, the home fries were not seasoned at all and my wife ended up picking her BLT apart looking for flavour. Very disappointing,

We noted that there was an active clientele that seemed more satisfied than ourselves, so maybe it was just our particular selections that day.

Perhaps they should cut down on the huge variety offered to elevate from a large mediocre menu, to a smaller more tasteful...

So far I’ve been to this place 3 times, and it’s hit or miss. First time I went I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and sweet potato fries, and they were amazing. Juicy pork and crispy fries. Second time I sat in the dining room and ordered coconut shrimp and spiced Thai stir fry. The shrimp were amazing, but the stir fry was bland. The only flavour it had was a little spice. Third time I ordered the pulled pork/sweet potato fries again for take out and was completely disappointed. The bun was burned, pork was bland and dry, and the fries were mush. I’m guessing that they still haven’t ironed out the kinks yet (considering the place is so new), so that’s why the food has been hit or miss.
