Grouchy Daddy's — Restaurant in Alberta

Went for dinner at Grouchy Daddy's last night for Father's Day with my husband, daughter, future son in law and his parents. I will NOT go back to this restaurant and will NOT be recommending this restaurant to anyone. I ordered Asian Lettuce Wrap to find that I had bugs (quite a few - one's with wings) on the leaves. When the waitress put down the plate, first thing I noticed is that on the ridge of one of the romaine lettuce leaves were going bad - black on the edges. Then to see that there were bugs on each of the leaves. Told waitress, she apologized and said that there is a new chef in the back and that they are receiving some complaints. Obviously the lettuce was not washed or checked before coming out. I said that maybe they should have some better quality control. I ended up ordering the fish tacos. Now I am questioning, as well as our family, if there is anything else that could be wrong with our meals. How clean is it in the kitchen?? and who is cooking our meals?? Maybe a health inspector should check out this cleanliness of this restaurant. After we finished our meal, the waitress came back to say that they would be offering a complimentary dessert because of this. I declined and confirmed with her that I would not be charged for my meal. She confirmed this. We ended up paying for my meal (fish tacos) $19. You think that because of this inconvenience(BUGS on the lettuce!) that Grouchy Daddy's could not charge me for my meal altogether!!! but to only offer me a complimentary dessert that was $8-$9!! I came here for the first time in 4 years after moving back to Alberta with a table of 7 for lunch. We were seated after a couple minutes of waiting, given menus, then completely forgotten about in a restaurant less than half full with at least 3 front staff on who walked past us multiple times over 20 minutes. We walked out after a long wait watching tables be cleaned and others be helped and I was ready to leave long before that but 1 of the others stopped us because she wanted to try it. It ended up even wearing on her and we all left. We went to Flames instead and the service was great and that will be the go to from now on now that I have family staying in Olds. I couldn’t believe the drop in experience from 4 years ago. Major downhill and disappointing. When we walked out two of the waitresses were standing outside at the patio podium chatting away and one was wiping a table. Just offensive at that point, if they were super busy we would have been understanding, but there was no excuse to not even take our drink orders in a timely manner and made the whole group upset. We found much better service elsewhere down the street that was fast and the food was great. Grouchy Daddy’s was a terrible and disappointing experience, I wonder if the food has also gone downhill but I guess we will never know. I hope no one else has as bad experience as us here. This was our first time here and we loved it. The food, service and atmosphere was all 10/10!

Food: We got the counter punch burger and the monthly special burger and they were both amazing. The burgers did not fall apart because the buns were the right size, nicely toasted and the patties were juicy and had a great grill tasting bite.

One of the sides was the truffle fries and the second was the mushroom soup. The truffle fries tasted great and the amount of cheese was next level. The garlic aioli that it came with was magnificent. We were dipping everything in it. The mushroom soup tasted great, similar to most canned mushroom soups but nice and warm on colder day. Perfect mix.

For dessert we got the grouchy donuts and they were so fluffy and crunchy. They weren't too sweet which is nice and the ice cream on the side was the perfect match for it.

Service: the service was great. We showed up at about 1:30pm on Saturday and they were rather busy but we got a seat right away and it was a booth which was nice. Our server was great and took good care of us. He made sure to explain the side options for the burgers which was helpful! No complaints!

Atmosphere: this restaurant is very modern looking and the vibe is spot on. The food matches and noise level is just right. Seating was open and we weren't tight and packed.
