Bringing people together by great food and a warm vibes!!!! On Sunday evening, my hubby and I cozied up beside the fire place for dinner. It was around 7PM and we knew we came right in the middle of the dinner hour. No reservations made, so we were worried about not getting a spot. I’ve heard a lot of great things about Black Diamond and let me tell you, it owned up to everything! Definitely was not a disappointment! We were greeted right away by the joyful host and the ambience is top notch! Being in the industry, my expectations are high. The wonderful server named Maria offered us a seat at the bar while waiting for our table. The restaurant was packed but the Manager/Owner Theresa did not fail to get us our drinks in an efficient/timely manner, with the kindness smile. Taking a peek around, it was definitely the cleanest, well-organized space that I’ve been to on the mountain thus far. Our table was ready within minutes and we got the best spot in the place! A two seater right beside the fire place looking out to the village! The server Rhichelle was so kind and went over and beyond no matter the case - extra napkins, another refil etc She knew how to prioritize and get things to the table before you’d even ask! We had 3 different servers all cleaning up after us and working together. You could really tell that they are dedicated in team service and making the customer happy! For dinner I had the colossal shrimp (to obviously save room for their famous ginger bread pudding) and my hubby had the cherry apple smoked baby backs. For the quality of food, the prices are extremely reasonable. Everything was so fresh and melt in your mouth delicious. You could tell that the chef and team really thought out each menu item. I’m really glad the staff were flexible enough to accommodate my husbands allergies and dietary needs on the fly because that’s our biggest hassle while being out. It seemed to be their smallest. They delivered with such finesse. It was awesome to see that there was big parties, families, older, younger people but everyone seemed to be so happy and enjoying themselves. Looks like they cater to everyone. All smiles. The kids even had colouring books while the grandparents are being offered a lemonchello! The life! The dessert options on the menu are to die for! So many decisions with such a little stomach, not fair. They are probably the only place that I’ve ever been to on the mountain that brings a cart around with booze and liquor! That owner Don is a clever man! Mm mmmm mmmm. This is my new favourite spot! See...
Read moreIf there were an option to give zero stars for the service, I would. I felt really upset with both the server and the owner of this restaurant. The server kept dropping food in a corner where nobody was sitting and never refilled our water. We basically had to serve ourselves. Then, the server informed us that an 18% tip had already been added to the bill.
We were never informed about this minimum tipping policy when we walked in as a group. When we tried to speak with the owner, she insisted that it was their policy and claimed that all Canadian restaurants have such a policy. As someone who lives in Vancouver, I’ve never heard of this before.
It’s fine for a restaurant to have a tipping policy like this, but it is their responsibility to notify customers in advance. Besides, if someone feels the service isn’t good enough, are we still required to tip 18%? That’s a bit questionable. In the end, we still tipped 15% for the server who eventually brought the food to our table.
However, we were deeply upset that the owner avoided addressing the service issues and only focused on defending the tipping policy. I understand that the owner wanted to stand up for her staff, but it’s no excuse for assuming and accusing us of not knowing Canadian tipping culture. Saying things like, “Oh, all restaurants require 18% tipping,” was unnecessary.
Tipping is supposed to reflect good service. If I’m not even allowed to complain about poor service, then what’s the point of tipping? I don’t understand.
By the way, as my friend left, the server stared at her in an unfriendly manner. I really regret recommending this restaurant to my friends. Anyway, thanks for giving us such a special experience...

We booked this restaurant six months in advance for Christmas and confirmed dietary restrictions multiple times, including a gluten intolerance. Despite this, the night was a complete disaster. We had received and confirmed a specific menu ahead of time, but upon arrival, the options had changed and no suitable gluten-free alternatives were available.
For one course, I was insultingly offered a basic garden salad—just lettuce, tomato, and cucumber—as a replacement. For my main meal, they promised to remove the gluten components but failed to do so. To make matters worse, the dessert provided as a “gluten-free option” tasted like a cheap supermarket packet cake.
While the waitress was kind and tried her best, the manager, Don, was shockingly rude. Not only did he show no empathy for the situation, but he also messed up our table arrangement and insisted on charging the full amount for two meals I couldn’t eat. His dismissive and unprofessional attitude added unnecessary stress to what should have been a special occasion. We spent over $2k for what was a very average meal
I cannot recommend this restaurant, particularly due to the appalling management. Don’s lack of respect and unwillingness to accommodate dietary needs was inexcusable. A truly...
